20-30 President
The camel's foot
proves more
vital than his
stomach
SCHOOLDAY geographies
used to say that the camel
was "the ship of the desert"
because his four-part stomach
allowed him to store up water
and travel through country
where it wis a long way be
tween filling stations.
Yet, when this Company went
Into Saudi Arabia to search for
new oil reserves, it discovered
that the camel's foot was at
least equally important. That
foot spread over sand in such
t way that it exerted only 12
pounds pressure to the square
inch thus making the sand
help the camel.
Oilfield production requires
the transport of heavy loads
sometimes as much as 18 tons,
or much too much for any
cameL Our problem was to
invent an oversize mechanical
camel which turned out to be
truck with tires so big the
square-inch load was exactly
that of a camel's foot. On your
car these tires would reach
above its hood nearly double
its overall width.
By such quaint lessons
learned of the camel, the South
American Indian and the Eski
mo this Company has helped
add to the nation's oil reserves.
Probably nothing exceeds the
influence of known reserves
when it comes to keeping down
the price of gasoline the life,
blood of your car.
