Private pilot certificate! were
today In the hands of two more
tudenU enrolled at the South
ern Oregon College of Educa
tion, Ashland, In the govern
ment'! civilian pilot training
program. Only three of the
original clasa of ten itudenti
remain to receive their private
pilot certificates. The course
will be ended next Wednesday,
Kenton E. Robbinn and Kent
N. Ashcraft, both of Ashland,
were the latest students to re
ceive their private flying rat
ing. They passed examinations
conducted at Med ford municipal
airport yesterday by Charles L
Walker and Rupert Hcrr, in
spectors of the civil aeronautics
authority. Five members of
the class had previously pro
cured their certificates as pri
vate pilots.
With the first class about
completed, attention now is be
ing concentrated on the next
group to be trained under the
government's expanded defense
program. Officials connected
with the project said that pos
sibly as many as 30 pilot stu
dents would be allotted South
ern Oregon College of Educa
tion if as many qualified youths
as that could be procured. It
was understood girls also would
be allowed to qualify for the
course.

CAA, and Carlton Spencer, di
rector of the civilian pilot
training program at the Uni
versity of Oregon, conferred
here and In Ashland yesterday
regarding the local program.
Students who have registered
already for the course are now
undergoing the required phys
ical examinations. Those inter
ested In taking the course may
obtain complete information at
the Southern Oregon College of
Education.

Enrollment of six men In com
pany A, 186th infantry of the
Oregon National guard was an
nounced today by Capt. Carl
Y. T e n g w a 1 d, commanding.
Eighteen recruits are still need
ed to bring the company up to
authorized strength, the captain
stated.
The new men enrolled were
Don D. Hcyde and Don Sellers,
Medford, John Woodrich and
Quentin Lewis, Eagle Point, Paul
Scofield, Talent, and Frank Rob
erts, who previously had served
in headquarters company which
now is a detachment.
Capt. Tengwald also an
nounced that Sgt. George I. Hall
had re-enlisted.

Nazi armies were attacking
the "last ditch" defenders of
Paris from three sides.
The German demand for
capitulation, Berlin reported,
would follow the procedure in
the case of Warsaw, capital of
Poland, and Rotterdam, capital
of Holland.
Warsaw, refusing to surrender.

Paris would probably be decided
