Of Interest to
Local Residents
The First Congregational
church In Ashland was the
scene of a beautiful June wed-'
ding last week when Miss Es
ther Carter, daughter of Mr.
and Mr. H. B. Carter, became
the bride of Lee Mcrrlman,
son of Mr. J. H. Mallery,
Trail. The Impressive ring cer
emony was read by the Rev
A. Morris Lotte. An attractive
setting of baskets of roses and
other seasonal flowers and ferns
banked the altar.
They were attended by Miss
Laverne Roberson, as brides
maid and Wayne G. Carter as
best man. As a prelude, Char
les Sturgil sang Cadman's "At
Dawning," accompanied by Miss
Betty Dano. Miss Margaret
Ramsay played the wedding
music.
The bride was attractively
gowned In navy blue crepe,
with blouse, blue shoes and hat.
She carried a colonial bouquet
of gardenias and sweetpeas and
the handrrchief which her moth
er carried at her own wedding.

Reedy wore ushers.
Following the wedding cere
mony, a buffet luncheon was
served the bridal party and
members of the Immediate fam
ilies at the home of the bride's
parents.
Later, guests attended the
graduation ceremonies of Mr.
Merriman at the Southern Ore
gon College of Education.
Mr and Mrs. Mcrrlman will
make their home for the sum
mer at Union Creek, where Mr.
Merriman is employed by the
forest service. The coming win
ter they will make their home
In Prospect where Mr. Merri
man teaches.
Both are graduates of SOCE.
Mrs. Merriman has lived In Ash
land all her life and has been
active in social, school and
church activities. She taught
the past year at Central Point.
Mr. Merriman has been active
in college activities, being stu
dent body president the past
year.

Wedding Revealed
Of Interest locally was the
marriage on Saturday, June 1,
of Miss Ruth Mary Armstrong
and Eugene E. Reames in Lake
view. The Rev. Griffith per
formed the ceremony.
The bride wore a blue gaber
dine suit with white accessories
and a corsage of pink rosebuds,
orangs blossoms and lilies of
the valley. She Is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. E. Armstrong
of Lakevicw and the bride
groom is the son of Mr and
Mrs. E. F.. Reames of Crater
Lake highway in Medford.
The couple will make their
home in Lekeview.

Recent Meeting
On Reports
After the regular business
session of Olive Rebekah lodge
last week, reports were given
by the delegates attending the
Rebekah assembly held In Cor
vallis. Reports were divided
between three delegates.
Viola Aldridge was elected
district deputy for this year
She was much Impressed witn
the business and initiation by
Sweet Home lodge. Rosie
Young, second delegates, gave
report of the IO.O.F. home In
Portland. The brothers and sis
ters and the children are happy
and contented. The matron
Etta Lytell, is highly regarded
by all in the home. At the
entrance to the home a beau
tiful neon sign, I.O.O.F., has
been installed, she said.
Report was also given of the
Theta Rho girls' clubs in the
state, which is a junior branch
of the Rebekahs. The third
delegate. Ethyl Weed, gave an
interesting report of the work
of the Canton auxiliaries of
which she was state president
this last year. Rev. Daniel
Stevens, Methodist minister of
the Corvallis church, gave a
splendid service. He praised
the lodges of America as a bul
wark of loyalty to the demo
cratic form of government. He
said that they can be of great
service in helping to drive the
fifth column out of this coun
try. The fifth column may not
be very strong in this country,
but the time has e o m to
"smoke" It out, he stated. He
listed loyalty, character build
ing, fellowship and benevolence
as four of the chief values of
fraternal organizations of this
country.
On June 17 Initiation will be
held All Rebekah lodges in
southern Oregon are invited,
and any visiting Rebekahs are
welcome to attend. The com
mittee for refreshments will
be as follows: Caroline Lead

announced the engagement of
their daughter Helen Rita to
Charles (Chick) Bryan at a party
at their home last week.
Announcement of the pending
betrothal was revealed in clever
fashion. A bowl centering the
table and surrounded by ivy,
contained ribbons going to each
guest's place. At the end of each
ribbon was a numbered card,
when the guests matched the
cards they spelled out the words
of the engagement. Bouquets of
flowers were pretty at the ends
of the table.

Zamerslaw and the bride-elect's

The couple's marriage will be
