church Friday evening at 8
O'clock when Miss Barbara
Drury became the brlda of
Charles Frederick Underwood
The Rev. Father Herald G.
.Gardner officiated.
The stately brunette bride,
given in marriage by her father
Mr. Allen B. Drury, wore an
Ivory silk lace gown over heavy
ivory satin, fashioned in prin
cess style with a slight train.
Her finger-tip ivory tulle vei.
was held in place by a coronet
of seed pearls and orange blos
soms. Gardenias and lily of the
valley composed the bridal bou
quet and her only Jewelry was
single strand of pearls.
The bride's two sisters were
attendants. Mrs. Norrls Porter
was matron of honor and Miss
Mildred Drury was bridesmaid.
They wore identical bouffant
(rocks of two shades of apricot
sheer crepe with exquisite
matching net, off-the-face pic
ture hats. The dresses and hats
'were trimmed with blue velvet
ribbon and they carried arm
bouquets of Talisman roses and
blue delphinium.
Norrls Porter served at best
man for Mr. Underwood and
ushers were Messrs. William
Bowerman, Otto J. Frohnmayer,
Charles Reum, Charles Barnes
and Charles Risse.
. Prior to the ceremony, which
was attended by two hundred
guests, Mrs. C. Norman Gail
sang "Because". Mrs. Eva H.
Marsh played the organ wed
ding music.
Mrs. Drury, mother of the
bride, wore lovely gown of
hyacinth blue chiffon trimmed
In ecru lace and a matching pic
ture hat of net trimmed in
salmon colored velvet ribbon.
Her corsage was of roses and
tweetpeas. Mrs. W. I. Under
wood, mother of the bridegroom
wore a pale blue and cream
punted chlffoo dress and a na
tural sheer straw picture hat.
Her corsage was also made of
roses and sweetpeas.
A reception attended by close
friends of Mr. and Mrs. Under
wood, followed the wedding at
the home of the Drurys on South
Oakdale avenue. Here the sixty
five guests were served from a
table appointed with white lnce
doth, white flowers and tapers.
The bride, In traditional manner
cut the bridal cake with the
knife owned by Mrs. W. J. War
ner which has been used thruout
the years by many Medford
brides.
Mrs. Drury was assisted at the
reception by Mrs. Underwood
Mrs. C. H. Paske. Mrs. E. H.
Forter and Mrs. C. M. Hurd.
The couple left after the cere
mony for a wedding trip and
will return in a week or ten
days to make their home at 2S
South Peach street. For a going
away ensemble, the bride chose
a beige and brown outfit and a
gardenia corsage.
Mrs. Underwood was honored
at numerous pre-nuptial parties
and last week, Mr. Barnes and
Mr. Reum were hosts for a
"bachelor" party for Mr. Under
wood. The bride it a graduate of
Medford high school and attend
ed the University of Oregon in
Eugene where she was afliliatcd
with Kapa Alpha Thcta torority.
In this city she is an active mem
ber of Beta Sigma Phi.
Mrs. Underwood rhuse the
date of her marriage, June 7,
because it marked the wedding
anniversary of her parents.
Howells Visit
In This City
Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Colvlg
returned to Medford and their
cabin on Evans creek Friday
from Portland where they had
visited for several days.
They were accompanied here
by Mrt. Colvlg's parents, Mr
and Mrs. W. B. Howell of Ore
gon City. After visiting over
night, the Howells left yesterday
to return home. They made the
trip by motorcar.

Of Recent Wedding
At the attractive summer
home of Mr. and Mrs. John
Peter on the Rogue river near
Shady Cove, Miss Ilda LydU
Williams was united in mar
riage to Elmer Vickoren on Sun
day, June 2. at 4 o'clock in the
afternoon. Rooms were beauti
fully decorated with spring
flowers and vows were spoken
before an improvised altar bunk
ed with a profusion of gladioli,
lilies and roses.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Williams of
Medford and Mr. Vickoren is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. John
J. Vickoren of Great Falls,
Mont.
Attending the couple were
Miss Viola Penland and Arthur
Troutman. Rev. D. E. Millard
officiated.
The bride wore a lovely gown
of rose taffeta In princess style
and a wreath of tiny rosebuds
in her hair. She carried an
old fashioned bouquet of roses,
pansies and sweetpeas. The
beautiful enmeo locket which
she wore has been In the bride's
family for generations and was
also worn by her mother, her
grandmother, her great-grandmother
and her great - great
grandmother at their weddings
The maid of honor wore a
gown of turquoise blue taffeta
and carried a bouquet of roses
and sweetpeas.
Following the ceremony a re
ception and dinner were held
at the summer home of the
bride's parents at Shady Cove.
The following guests were

Recent visitors In Medford
for a brief times were Mr. and
Mrs. Frank A. Riebe of Port
land, who with their two chil
dren, Lois Ann and Frank
Davis, were en route to San

In Medford they' visited with
Mr. Riebe's brother, Eugene
Riebe. The brothers had not
seen each other for eight years.

was the scene of the wedding
Saturday evening of Mist Janet
Rae Reter. daughter of Mrs
Marguerite Reter and Raymond
Heter to Marion H. Johnson,
son of Mr. and Mrs. M. H. John
son. The Rev. Father Herald G.
Gardner officiated at the 7:30
o'clock ceremony.
Vows were spoken at an altar
decorated with sprays of mock
orange blossom.
The petite bride, given in
marriage by her father, wore a
navy blue silk jersey frock with
white polka, dots and a white
ruffled collar. Navy blue and
white accessories and a corsage
of gardenia and bouvardia com
pleted the ensemble.
Miss Peggy Reter attended
her sister as bridesmaid. She
wore a print tilk dress, blue and
white accessories and a corsage
of carnations. Floyd Baker at
tended Mr. Johnson as best man.
Mrs. Reter, mother of the
bride wore a dress of black and
v.hite chiffon with matching ac
cessories and a corsage of white
carnations.
Only immediate members of
the two families attended the
simple but impressive ceremony.
Iter the young couple left for
San Francisco. They will return
in a week to make their home
at 406 North Oakdale avenue.
Trio Departs for
San Francisco F air
Mr. and Mrs. Norris Porter
and Mrs Porter's mother, Mn
Allen B. Drury, plan to leave
today for San Francisco to at
tend the Golden Gate Inter
national exposition on Treasure
island and vacation for a week.
At the end of the week, Mrs.
Drury will return to Medford
and the Porters will travel east,
stopping In Detroit and other
interesting places en route to
New York City to attend the
world's fair. They plan to re
turn to Medford the latter part
of July and will leave shortly
after for Alaska to reside.
The two have been visiting
relatives here for the past
month. They spent the last two
years in Flat, Alnska, where
they taught in a government
school.

Man Marries
In Arizona
Word was received this week
of the surprise marriage of Jack
A. Denison and Miss Ellen Neva
Walker on Sunday, June 2.
They were married at Yuma.
Arizona's Gretna Green, and
were accompanied by the bride's
mother, Mrs. Neva Walker of
Riverside, Cal., and Mr. and
Mrs. Whitney, uncle and aunt
of the bride.
Both the bride and groom are
well known in the younger set
here, and both are graduates of
Medford high school. Jack
Denison is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. John H Denison of this
city. They will make their
future home in Los Angeles,
where Mr. Denison Is employed.
Miss Kelly Leaves
For North School
Mist Marjorie Kelly plans to
leave todav for the nnrth tn
spend several weeks. In Rose-
ourg she will visit her brother,
Robert E. Kelly and family and
then will travel on to Portland
to visit friends and relatives
briefly before motoring to Se
attle where she will spend a
fortnight attending a Red Cross
aquatic school in Issaquah.
Wash., a short distance from
Seattle.
Included in the ten-day school
is Instruction in boating, canoe
ing, basic swimming, water saf
ety and life saving. Miss Kelly
will also take a special first
aid course.
At the conclusion of the
school. Miss Kelly will meet
her brother and sister-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs Edward Kelly,
upon their return from Nome,
Alaska. The group will return
to Medford about the last of
June.
Headquarters for the school
will be Four Seasons lodge at
Beaver lake.

Couple Married
In Sunday Service
The home of Mr. and Mrs.
Will Fugcre on Griffin Creek
was the scene of an impressive
ceremony Sunday evening, June
2 at 8 o'clock when Mrs. Fu
gcre's daughter, Beulah Mattie
Vogcl became the bride of
David Elmer Osborn in the pres
ence of a number of guests.
Vows were read by the Rev.
T. Wire, pastor of the Methodist
church in Ashland, before a
beuutiful floral altar consisting
of white mock roses with bas
kets of colored roses, snap drag
ons and sweetpeas on either side.
The bride wore a floor length
gown of white taffeta with a
corsage of gardenias. Her atten
dant. Miss Lola Straube of the
Applegate district wore peach
taffeta gown and a corsage of
tea roses. Ray Vogel, brother of
the bride, acted as best man for
Mr. Osborn.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Cook of
Ashland played the wedding
music. A violin solo, "I Love
You Truly" was played with
piano accompaniment prior to
the ceremony. The Cooks are
the uncle and aunt of the bride
groom. A reception given by- the
oride't parents, followed the
ceremony. A rosebud decorated
wedding cake with miniature
bride and groom formed the
table centerpiece.
The couple will make their
home on Griffin Creek where
they are building a new resi
dence. The bride has lived in the
vicinity for the past eleven
years and has many friends in
the valley. Mr. Osborn is asso
ciated with the Stearns Mining
company on Forest creek.

will hold its annual picnic Mon
day at Bybee bridge at 6:30 in
the evening.

were united in marriage at 6
o'clock Saturday evening at the
home of the Rev. R. W. Cole
man, pastor of the First Chris
tian church. Members of th
two families were guests.
The charming young bride
wore an afternoon bolero dress
of desert rose hue with match
ing hat, navy blue accessories
and a corsage of orchids and
lilies of the, valley.
Mist Jean Bowen attended
the bride. She wore a cold tult
and a corsage of Talisman roses.
Eldon Grow acted as best man
for Mr. Wilson.
Mrs. Konkel, mother of the
bride, wore a navy blue and
white ensemble.
A reception at the home of
the bride's parents on West
Jackson street followed the cere
mony. Guests were relatives and
friends of the couple. Refresh
ments were served from a table
decorated In all white appoint
ments and flowers and a large
wedding cake.
Assisting Mrs. Konkel about
the rooms were the bride's aunt,
Mrs. Charles Brooks, her cousin
Mrs. Joe Timmerman and the
Misses Shirley McCulloch, Nan
cy Heath and Mrs. Walter
Atkins.
Later the newly wedded cou
ple left for San Francisco. They
will return to Medford in a
week and after June 24 will be
at home to their many friends
at 909 West Fourth street. For a
going-away outfit, the bride
wore a navy blue suit with
matching accessories.
A number of delightful parties
feted Mrs. Wilson prior to her
marriage. She is a graduate of
the Medford high school, class
of 1940 and a popular member
of the younger set here.
Philip Lowry Is
Graduate Today
Mr. and Mrs. Bert B. lowry
are among Medford residents
attending University of Oregon
commencement today.
Their son Philip, law student,
is being graduated with honors
in political science, which ha
chose as hit minor. He is a
Phi Beta Kappa and a member
of the Senior Six (the six top
rating members of the senior
class He has been president
of the class and recently was
elected by his classmates at
permanent president of the clasa
of 1940. After graduation, tha
local well known boy will take
a trip throughout the east, vis
iting several national parks en
route.
Mrs. Mack Travels
To Portland Rites
Mrs. Mabel Mack left vertorv
day by motorcar for Portland
to attend the wedding todny of
Miss Catherine Campbell and
Harry Campbell.
On Monnay, Mrs. Mack will
travel to Salem to attend the
State Grange meeting and later
will go to Corvaliis where she
will teach for two weeka at
the 4-H summer school session
on "dollar dinners." She plana
to return to Medford at the
conclusion of the school.
