FIRE GUARDS GET
INTENSIVE DRILL
A three-day training camp for
fire guards who will man look
out stations in the Rogue River
National Forest this summer was
underway at Camp Carberry In
the Applegate section, today.
Approximately 60 persons
will be given intensive training
in fire detection and use of fire
mapping methods, under direc
tion of M. L. Tedrow. Assisting
him is George Griffith from the
division of education in the
Portland regional office.
Forestry headquarters here re
ported that a few of the more
important look-out stations were
being manned now. Full time
crews, however, will be dis
patched to the stations upon
completion of the training camp.
The official fire season opened
a short time ago and regulations
covering camp fires and other
phases will be effective until
late September.
