HEY HAVE NOT DIED IN VAIN
In the last century and
a half, hundreds of thou
sands of men have laid down their
lives to give us a land where all men
have equal rights. These honored
dead bravely defended our country
on the battlefield. Today we are called on to fight 'a new kind of
war against those who would destroy us from within a war that
calls us to repel a barrage of words with the same courage our
fathers displayed against enemy bullets. We will win because you
can't fool America. In the words of Commander-in-Chief Otis N.
Brown of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States:
"Because we know from what has happened in other countries

Our nation stands united in the faith for which Amer
icans have given their lives. Secure against invasion
from without, because of their sacrifice, we stand today
with equal strength against foreign attacks upon our
minds and hearts. Fomenters of discord and breeders

line of defense the unity of the American people.
laugh at their own comic opera
plots to destroy the ideals every
veteran has risked his life and limb
to defend. If these apostles of Euro

know the ordinary liberty-loving American citizen wants no part
or parcel of the misery that is rampant in Europe today under
the very banners they would erect in the United States."
Let us keep faith with those who have given their last full meas
ure of devotion for the cause of freedom. Let us highly resolve
to preserve America as a land where our children regardless of
race, color or creed can be assured of "life, liberty and the pur
suit of happiness."
