New York, May 22 (P The
ebb tide of selling turned in the
stock market today and a selec
tive flow of buying set in.
Aircraft, steels and special
ties were the principal gainers.
As news from the theater of
war appeared more favorable to
the allied cause, the hysterical
selling of Tuesday was convert
ed into careful buying in issues
calculated to benefit from Amer
ican rearmament.
The move was not vigorous,
and many leaders had lost part
of the day's gains at the finish.
Turnover, at about 2.100.000
shares, was only about half
Tuesday's.
Douglas, United Aircraft,
Glenn Martin, and Sperry were
most consistent performers on
the upside. Others in favor most
of the time included Montgom
ery Ward. Youngstown Sheet,
Du Pont, Allied Chemical, Loft.
Great Northern preferred. Case.
American and Eastman.
Lower were American Tele
