erence primary, Roosevelt
leads Garner roughly seven to
one. That certainly leaves no
doubt as to the preference of
Oregon Democrats.
Don t, however, overlook the
fact that Republican McNary
is getting more votes (as these
words are written the count is
far from complete) than Roose
velt and Garner combined.
THAT has happened In other
alate primaries, and Is a def
inite indication of what may
happen if Roosevelt decides to
run again in the face of the
third term tradition.
AS TO the president's ability
to get a third-term nomin
ation if he wants it, no doubt
remains. Oregon's vote brings
him within 43 of a majority of
the Democratic convention, and
it is regarded as a certainty
that he will pick up 32 more
delegates In next Tuesday's
New Jersey primary. For weeks
the signs have been plain that
he will hold the Democratic
convention in the hollow of his
hand.
Whether or not we are to
have a third-term campaign de
pends upon President Roosevelt
himself.
IF YOU feel strongly that
Americans should do some
thing about Europe, here is a
suggestion: GIVE to tho Red
Cross fund for European war
relief.
There Is nothing better that
Americans can do.
