IN LATIN AMERICA
Mexico, D. F.OJ.P) Latin
America has taken more
Spanish refugees tian Russia,
according to figures released
here by Constancia de la Mora,
former chief of the press divi
sion of the republican govern
ment of Spain.
Senora de la Mora, whose hus
band was chief of aviation tot
the loyalists, is in Mexico assist
ing the Spanish refugee commit
tees In their task of resettlement
of thousands of fugitive Spani
ards. The committees have official
ly registered 6.000 refugees in
Mexico, she said, in addition to
which there are 2,000 unregis
tered persons who have entered
the republic through the assis
tance of relatives, or by their
own means.
According to her figures there
arc between 3,000 and 4,000
more in all other Latin Ameri
can countries, led by Chile with
2,300. She estimated Russia to
aay had received 8.000 Spanish
refugees, 8,300 fewer than In
Latin America.
Russia offered to take all the
veterans and all tha children of
the loyalists, she said, but the
committees preferred to send
many of them west.
"Of all the refugees in the
world, the Spanish refugees are
the luckiest, to be accepted In
the Americas." she said.
Senora de la Mora said there
were still 180.000 of her people
refugees in France. She criti
cized the French government
for the treatment many of them
were getting, allegedly In con
centration camps, and charged
that others were being pressed
into service in labor gangs.

Latest Dr. Kildare
Picture Pleasing
Crater ian Crowds
Dramatically presenting the
first picturization of the meth
od of restoring insane patient
to normalcy, "Dr. Kildare s
Strange Case", latest of the
'Dr. Kildare pictures, opened 1
at the Craterlan Theatre last
night for three days.
Fourth of the dramatic hospi
tal stories, with Lew Ayres as
the impetuous young interne.
Dr. Jimmy Kildare. and Lionel
Barrymore as the Irascible but
great diagnostician. Dr. Leon
ard Gillespie. "Dr. Kildare's
Strange Case" concerns itself
with Ayres' lone-handed fight '
to prove that a surgeon-friend
is unjustly accused of perform
ing a delicate brain operation 1
that caused madness in the pa
tient. :
The picture presents the first
picturization of the use of in
sulin shock treatment to rouse
a person out of insanity and
bring him back to mental norm
alcy. Dramatic highlights of the
feature include the actual ad
ministration of the Insulin
shock treatment, the reactions
of the patient following the
treatment and a bird's-eye view
of a delicate brain surgery.
In the name role, Ayres again
is convincing, impetuous and
earnest in the characterization.
Still, he manages easily to In
ject whimsical touches that
have made the Kildare charac
ter a lovable one. As the great
diagnostician, Lionel Barry
more seems to be effortless in
his acting. He is Dr. Gillespie
to the core. Laraine Day Is
again seen as Nurse Mary La
mont, in love with Ayres, de
sirous of being his wife but
realizing that his Judgment to
1 become a great doctor like Gil
lespie is far more important
than their own lives.
