ket today and scored more than
enough hits to offset quiet
strength in an assortment of
preferred and specialty issues.
The list held to narrow price
changes cither way until late
afternoon when steels and air-
crafts were subjected to a mild
barrage of offerings. Losses of
fractions to a point or so were
well distributed at the close.
Transfers approximated 800,-
000 shares for the full session.

Edgar Epperson, 18, Paul
Swearinger, 31, and T. J. Mor
ris, 29, who plead guilty to
passing spurious checks in this
city, were each sentenced today
to serve three years in the state
penitentiary, bj Circuit Judge
H. D. Norton.
The trio were accused of pass
ing in the neighborhood of $200
in bogus checks here several
weeks ago on local stores in
cluding J. C. Penney company
and the Lewis super service sta
tion. They also passed spurious
paper in the Talent district and
at Bend and Burns.
They were arrested at Good
ing, Idaho, and returned here
a week ago.

According to a report on file
today, Val J. Fischer, 46, of 53
Summit avenue, operated a car
that struck Steve Felski, 40, a
watchman at the Medford Fuel

tempting to cross the street at
Main and Front streets Wednes
day night. The report said Fel-1
ski stepped back to let the car
pass and then walked into the
side of it. Fischer took him to
the police station and then to
his home, the report stated. Po
lice said he was not hurt.
Collide on Sixth
Mrs. Terisa Weiss of Central
Point and J. J. Murphy were!
drivers of cars that collided this
morning in the Sixth street and
Central avenue intersection.
Mrs. Weiss said she did not see
the other car. Murphy's address
was not given.
Cars operated by Vernon M.
Evans, 25, of the Eads Transfer 1
company, and C. G. Congle of
Grants Pass collided on the Paci
fic highway at Beall Lane Wed
nesday night. Evans reported
that he slowed down to lot on
coming cars pass him before
making a left turn off the high
way into the lane and was
struck from the rear by the
Congle auto. A couple of pas
sengers were shaken up by the
impact, police said.
A dozen accidents occurred in
the Medford area during the
Christmas holidays and though
none was serious there were
lucky escapes in two of them.
Police patrols were increased
during the New Year's holidays
and the number of accidents di
minished substantially, though
two were serious and one ended
fatally.
Richard L. Shelton, 23, Camp
South Fork CCC enrollee from
Aberdeen, Ohio, died Tuesday
night as a result of injuries suf
fered last Sunday night in a col
lision of two CCC trucks on the
Butte Falls road. Five other
CCC men were hurt, none ser
iously. A CCC Investigating board
was to file a report on the ac
cident and death tomorrow.
CCC headquarters stated today
that the investigation thus far
indicated both truck drivers
were at fault for being over the
center line of the highway.
It was indicated at first that
a coroner's hearing or inquest
would be held but the district
attorney's office decided there
was no need of one.

superlntendent-at-large of Ore
gon and Idaho Indian schools,
was returned here today for
trial on eight charges of present
ing false vouchers and forging
government checks.
