Many Bidden to
Cocktail Party
Several hundred guests were
bidden to the Gordon R. Green
home on the Old Stage road
for a cocktail party during the
afternoon of the final day of
the old year Sunday.
Hosts for the enjoyable affair
were the Greens and Mr. and
Mrs. Al Littrell. The numcroui
guests called between the hours
of 1 to 5 o'clock to receive cock'
tails in rooms gayly decorated
in the Yule motif.

The home of the Rev. Joseph
Knotts, pastor of the Methodist
Episcipal church at 27 North
Orange street, was the scene of
the wedding of Naomi Cogglns
and W. L. Byrum, Saturday
evening at 8 o'clock.
The bride who wore an ensem
ble of grape color with a corsage
of gardenias, was attended by
Miss Babe Burnette. John
Smith acted as best man for
Mr. Byrum.
The couple will make their
home In this city.

day morning for the snow area

At an Impressive ceremony
held yesterday afternoon at one
o'clock at the home of her
mother, Mrs. Edith Whillock,
on the old Central Point high
way, Miss Edith Whillock bo
came the bride of Leo Hoag,
son of Mrs. Jennie Hoag of Mc
Cloud. The charming bride wore a
grape colored costume suit
trimmed in fur, black acces
sories and a corsage of white
roses. Her bridesmaid was Mrs.
Dan Ohrt who wore a blue cos
tume suit.
The couple spoke their vows
in front of the fireplace which
was banked with yellow and
white chrysanthemums. The
Rev. Wolford A. Dawes, pastor
of the Baptist church, united
the couple in marriage.
Thirty guests were bidden to
the ceremony and the reception
which followed. Assisting about
the rooms were the Misses
Katherine Mead and Carlin
Piatt.
Following a wedding trip
south, Mr. and Mrs. Hoag will
make their home in McCloud.
The bride Is a graduate of
Medford high school, class of
1937. Mr. Hoag attended the
Prospect school and later went
to Oregon State college in Cor-
vallls.

party last evening at Chalker's
Motel- near Gold Hill.
The affair was cabaret style
with clever decorations and an
abundance of noisy favors for

the men in the life of Mary Vila
a clue to the murderer who bru
tally beat and smothered the 23-
year-old Argentine beauty and
left her nude, mutilated body In
her bed. '
A dozen persons, including
two men known to have been
friendly with the girl, wera
questioned concerning the slay
ing, discovered by her room
mate early yesterday. None of
those questioned was formally
arraigned.
The roommate, 25-year-old
Anna Oscilowskl, made tha
grisly discovery as she crept
into the bed they shared, and
felt the cold nude body between
blood-soaked sheets. Throwing
back the bedclothlng, she gasped
in horror at the mutilated body
and ran, screaming for help.

TALE OF TERROR
Fort Towson, Okla., Jan. 1.
(P) A frightened, drowsy llttla
boy's story that two strangers
shot his father and mother, then
burned the house down on them
and his small brother prompted
an intensive investigation today.
Excited and shocked, 8-year-old
James Glenn Rogers stuck
to his tale of terror. He was
questioned by officials studying
the deaths last night of Mr, and
Mrs. Elmer Rogers and their 4-year-old
son, Dean.
County Attorney Norman
Horton said "the physical facta
point to violence of some kind."
"It was about bedtime," James
told Horton, that two men ha
hadn't seen before knocked at
the house.
"Right away they- came in
and shot daddy with a big gun.
"Mother ran to the yard for
help. She got to tha back porch
and they shot her too."
