eau of reclamation, consulted
yesterday with officials of the
Medford irrigation district and
the Rogue River irrigation dis
tricts, regarding ways and
means whereby the water sup
ply of the districts may be in
creased and additional acreage
irrigated, without increasing
the annual water assessments
an appreciable amount.

In this connection, it was an
nounced that additional designs
are being made at the Denver,
Colo., office of the reclamation
bureau to determine if a dam
at the Hanley site would im
pound sufficient water at a less
cost than one at the Lake Creek
site, E. N. Judd, general man
ager, said. ,
Decision Waited
Testings and surveys of the
Lake Creek site were made
about a year ago and have been
in the reclamation office since,
awaiting a decision.
Another object of the engin
eers was to outline plans and
commence work on a compre
hensive survey of the entire
Rogue river watershed to de
termine if additional arid lands
could be irrigated at a reason
able cost. This survey Is being
made jointly by the federal gov
ernment, the state, and Jackson
and Josephine counties. The
two counties have entered into
contract for the reclamation
bureau to make the survey.
Forester In Charge
The survey will be in charge
of Project Engineer Forester,
who will make his headquarters
at Grants Pass for the present
The Merlin district will be sur
veyed first, the Applegate and
Illinois valleys next, and then
the Sams valley-Beagle district
in Jackson county, along with
any other area advanced.
Army engineers are also aid
ing in the survey, Judd said.
They are making surveys and
gathering data on cost and prac
ticability of dams and reservoirs
for flood control on the Apple-
gate and Rogue rivers. It
thought the dams might serve
the joint purpose of flood con
trol and irrigation water stor
age.

Chester L. Myers, 27, of 406
King street, died early this
morning in a Salem hospital.
Death was attributed to an in
fection that developed as an
aftermath of an attack of in
fluenza Mr. Myers had suffered
recently.
A painting contractor, Mr
Myers was well known in Med
ford. He had resided here for
18 years.
Mr. Myers was born in Port
land on September 18, 1912
He is survived by his wife, La-
Verne, two young children
Beverly Jean and Joyce Elaine,
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D.
L. Myers of Portland, two
brothers, Delmar and Robert
Myers of Medford, and a sister,
Bernice Myers of Portland.
Funeral arrangements were
being made today by the Conger
funeral parlors.

pointment of the Oregon eco
nomic council was announced
today by Gov. Charles A.
Sprague, who said in a letter
to council members that they
should "undertake the task of
examining our resources, plan-
rung methods for their optimum
utilization, encouraging general
development and promoting
marketing.
The council will have 20
members, but only 19 have been
appointed. E. B. McNaughton,
Portland banker, will be chairman.
If Oregon is to progress and
to enjoy the full measure of its
many resources and its economic
and social advantages, it will be
necessary for us to attack the
problems that confront us and
to give coordinated direction in
government, industry, com
merce and agriculture. I believe
the Oregon economic council
has an opportunity to do great
things for this state," the gov
ernor wrote in the letter to
members.

11 oup butter, melted
11 eiip brown sugar 1
oup molasses, heated
V teaspoon elnnsmom
teaspoon maos
H teaspoon nutmeg - .
teaspoon allaptee
18 teaspoon salt
teaspoon sods
3 cups flour
Mil all the ingredients. Cover and
let stand a week or longer In a very
cold place. Roll out the dough and
bske for six minutes on greased
cooky sheets in a moderate over
(350 degrees).
Cocoa nut -Data Drops.
1 cup butter
1 cup granulated sugar
I eggs, beaten
,14 cup cream
1 teaspoon grated lemon rind
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
13 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped dates
38 cup .cocoanut
38 cup ground nuts
3H cups flour
1 teaspoon soda
Cream the butter and sugar until
very soft. Add the rest of the- In
gredients. Mia lightly. Chill the
dough then drop portions from the
tip of a spoon onto greased baking (
sheets. Flatten each cooky. Bake in
moderate oven.
Fruit sticks.
3 egg yolks
1 cup light brown sugar
oup chopped raisins
cup chopped prunes (dried)
oup chopped candled fruit peel
(any kind)
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon vanilla .
1 teaspoon baking powder
3 egg whites, beaten
Mix the yolks and sugar. Add the
rest of the Ingredients. Mix lightly
and pour Into a shallow greased pan.
Bake for 38 minutes In a moderate
oven. Cut Into bars and roll In
sugar.

TREASURE IN GRAVE
Oregon City, Ore., Dec. 15.
(iP) Howard W. Utting, 25,
Portland longshoreman, accused
of illegal disinterment of a 30
year old grave near Boring,
pleaded guilty yesterday and
was sentenced to a three-months
term in the county Jail.
Arthur Becker, 26, also a
longshoreman, was bound to the
grand jury on a similar charge.
He pleaded innocent and was
released on his own recogniz
ance. Utting said he opened a pio
neer grave to investigate tales
f buried treasure. Nothing of
alue was discovered.
