Newest Dr. Kildare
Film Featured For
Craterian Crowds
A weird secret malady of a
beautiful girl, a doctor on the
detective trail to solve it, thrills
romance and human interest be
hind the walls of a great hospi
tal are blended in "The Secret
of Dr. Kildare," third of the
Dr. Kildare series, now play
ing at the Craterian Theatre,
with Lew Ayres and Lionel
Barymore heading the cast.
The story revolves about the
nameless terror of a young girl,
which, through exciting adven
tures, Ayres, as Dr. Jimmy Kil
dare, traces down to the machin
ations of a fanatical nurse and
a quack doctor. Barrymore, as
the veteran Dr. Gillespie, guides
him. Dramatic episodes such as
healing a girl's blindness by
practical mental suggestion and
the apparent miraculous cure of
a paralytic boy by a new medi
cal discovery, are mingled with
nilanov- comedy, such as Barry
more's game of "craps" with
George Reed. The story moves
at a fast pace, with many deft
little human touches.
Laraine Day is charming as
Mary Lamont, the nurse, and
Helen Gilbert's fragile blonde
beauty is effective in her role
as the "mystery patient." Nat
Pendleton and Marie Blake as
the ambulance driver and tele
phone operator add comedy
touches, and Lionel Atwill, Sara
Haden, Samuel S. Hinds, Emma
Dunn, Walter Kingsford. Grant
Mitchell, Alma Kruger and Rob
ert Kent handle the principal
roies capably.
