German-American bund set out
today under the leadership of a
"fuehrer pro-tem" to (raise funds
for an appeal for Fritz Kuhn,
convicted of forgery and theft
from the bund's treasury.
The jailed fuehrer still was In
the saddle In absentia while
national vice-leader G. WUhelm '
Kunze moved ahead with plans
to convince the law that Kuhn
could not possibly have stolen
from the funds because he con
trolled them absolutely. That's
the bund's "leadership prin
ciple." While Kuhn morosely contem
plated the walls of his Tombi
cell, awaiting his day of sentenc
ing, Kunze, a tall former Fhila
delphlan, made it plain he had
no Immediate intention of claim
ing the leadership to which
Kuhn had named his successor
even as Adolf Hitler chose his
successor before going to the
front in Germany's campaign
against Poland.
"I take him (Kuhn's) place
where he cannot be personally,
but Fritz Kuhn Is the leader of
the German-American bund and
will continue to be," Kunze told
a bund rally in the Bronx last
night..
