Improved Marked improve
ment was noted today in the
condition of J. W. Shirley, who
has been confined to his home
at 211 Vancouver avenue for
the past week with a severe
cold. Mr. Shirley expected to
be out and about again in a
day or so.
Court Citationi Arthur W.
Limbeck, 22 of Central
' Point, was cited by state police
yesterday to appear in justice
of the peace court this after
noon charged with driving a car
without an operator s license,
Forest L. Linderman, 34, of Red
ding, Cal., was cited to appear
on a charge of operating a truck
with no P.U.C. plates.

Crater Lake national park to
day, rangers reported by short
wave radio. Roads in the park
. were icy this morning but
r rangers thought the ice would
melt before noon. Lowest tem
perature during the night was
31 degrees. The mercury regis
tered 33 degrees at 8 a. m., time
of the broadcast.

flag-stop and the midnight
southbound Malnllners last
night and the early morning
northbound and the forenoon
southbound Mainliners today
flew over Medford, unable to
get in here because of fog. It
was thought that the northbound
afternoon plane due here at
3:19 might be able to get in.

this morning. Mr. Dennis said
that attendance in Rogue River
schools last month, during the
height of the influenza epidemic,
was 96 percent of normal.

the past two months but is now
able to sit up in a wheel chair.

administration as "representing
the greatest period of growth in
nearly a decade."

H. Ruh, of suburban Lakewood
has a boxing cat Mr. Buster
which he has trained to wear
gloves on its forepaws and box
round after round with him.
"The cat is a mild animal," Ruh
said, "until the gloves are put
on. Then it becomes a veteran
boxer and never retreats."
Hops Bring 23 Cents
Portland, Dec. 1. (JP The
agricultural marketing service
reported the sale of about 90
bales of medium quality 1939
hops today at 23 cents a pound
but generally there was little
activity during the week. Top
quality 1939 clusters were quo
ted nominally 25 cents a pound,
net growers. There were no new
contracts.

CHRYSLER TO PAY
New York, Dec. 1. (P) Di
rectors of Chrysler Corp., whose J
plants have just reopened fol
lowing a 56-day shutdown due
to labor trouble, declared today
a dividend of $1 a common
share. In the two preceding
quarters, the company paid divi
dends of $1.50 each.
The motor manufacturer re
ported net profit for the first
nine months of this year of $31,
403,118, or $7.22 a common
share, compared with $6,671,-
878, or $1.53 a share, in the
like 1938 period.
The earnings were not affect
ed by the labor difficulty, all of
which took place in the fourth
quarter.

fession in Chicopee in 1713 it
paid 34 cents a week. The WPA
Historical Records Survey has
discovered that a "Miss Cooley"
was paid a total of $17.50 for

the New York 1940 world's fair.
Its $3,000,000 exhibition will be
razed.
Fair officials, in making the
announcement today, said the
decision was reached before
Russia's invasion of Finland.
Fair officials said an explana
tion would be made later by the
Soviet government.
SURVIVES SUBMARINES
TO DIE IN BLACKOUT
London, Dec. 1 (P) William
Hughes, 44, one of the survivors
of the British steamer Usk
mouth, sunk Nov. 28, arrived in
a British port yesterday after
spending 25 hours in an open
boat. He went walking during
the blackout last night, fell into
the harbor and drowned.
Cleveland, O. (UP)-Fourtcen
girls have organized a Girls'
Gliding club in Collingwood
high school the only such girls'
organization in the country. The
club uses two gliders, each with
a wing-spread of 36 feet. They
were made by boys in shop
classes at the high school.
