Three Hostesses
Entertain Many
At Dance Party
Three members of the school
set entertained Friday evening
with the largest dancing party
held here in months.
Charming hostesses were the
Misses Nanette Holmes, Patricia
Dippel, and Lois Pringle.
The formal affair was neld in
the Episcopal parish hall, one
hundred and fifty guests were
bidden and Whipple's orchestra
played dance tunes.
Dancing contests and refresh
ments were enjoyed during the
evening. A Jitterbug feature was
. won by Don Moyer and ileulah
Stephenson and Mr. and Mrs.
Russell Acheson were awarded
'the prize for being the most
graceful waltzers present

To Visitors Here
Mr. and Mrs. Don R. Newbury
were hosts Thanksgiving day at
their home on Eastwood drive to
several out-of-town guests.
Coming from Portland were
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Delzell and
"youngest son, Charles, a student
at the University of Oregon. The
Delzclls are Mrs. Newbury s
parents.
Also spending the day here
were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Delzell of
Klamath Falls. Mr. Delzell is
Mrs. Newbury's brother. The
couple departed for their home
Thursday evening while the
other guests remained for the
week-end.
Benford Home Is
Scene of Party
Mrs. Frank Benford entertain
ed recently with a birthday
party in honor of her grandson,
Charles Wilcox, whose fifth na
tal day was observed at the
event.
Twenty-two youngsters gath
ered at the Benford home to
enjoy games and refreshments.

with a large four-tier birthday
cake made in the form of a
merry-go-round.

Service Friday
Is Revealed
Miss Mary Alice Maguin and
Lewis Dowler of Medford were
united in marriage Friday eve
ning, November 24.
The Rev. Joseph Knotts, pas
tor of the Methodist Episcopal
church, performed the single
ring ceremony in the presence
of the attendants. Mr. and Mrs.
Gene Eldridge and a few close
relatives.
The bride attended the Med
ford schools and has resided in
the city a number of years.
Mr. Dowler received his edu
cation in Dana, Ind.
Following the ceremony, the
couple left on a wedtli nc trin
after which they will return to
make their home at 57 North
Peach street.

Medford Couple
In a beautiful Thanksgiving
day setting at St. Mark's Episco
pal church Thursday afternoon
at 1 o'clock. Miss Helen McAllis
ter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.
E. McAllister became the bride
of John D. Rafferty, son of Mr.
and Mrs. J. J. Rafferty of Wat
sonville, Calif., and Manila, P. I.,
in the presence of one hundred
guests.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore an exquisite
gown fashioned in Elizabethan
style. The bodice was of white
satin and the full skirt was majle
of hand woven fibers of pine
apple leaves, the material hav
ing been sent from Manila as a
gift to the bride from the bride
groom's father. A finger-tip tulle
veil suspended from a tiara of
seed pearls, completed the beau
tiful bridal creation. She carried
a bouquet of pink and white
bouvardia, forget-me-nots and
roses. White ribbon streamers
with clusters of bouvardia hung
from the bouquet.
Mrs. Wiley Phares was her
sister's matron of honor. She
wore a bollero gown of fuschia
chiffon trimmed in green chiffon
bows. Her bouquet was of yel
low chrysanthemums.
Bridesmaids were Mrs. John
Elson and Miss Frances Maguin.
Mrs. Elson was dressed in tour-
quoise chiffon and carried
bronze chrysanthemums. Miss
Maguin's frock was of yellow
chiffon and her bouquet was also
composed of bronze chrysanthe
mums. They both wore tiaras of
velvet flowers matching their
gowns.
Dick Rafferty of Nevada City,
acted as best man for his broth
er. Ushers were Wiley Phares
and Andy Ha.nna.
Prior to the ceremony, Mrs.
Eva H. Marsh, organist, played
Indian Love Call. Wedding mu
sic was from Lohengrin and
Mendelssohn.
The couple exchanged vows at
the altar decorated with laurel
and white chrysanthemums.
A reception at the home of the
bride's parents on North Peach
street for sixty guests, followed
the ceremony. Members of the
bridal party assisted about the
rooms and others helping were
Mrs. J. J. Rafferty, Mrs. Will
Morton, Mrs. E. L. Henninger
and Mrs. Dick Rafferty.
Mrs. McAllister, mother of the
bride, wore a dress of blue lace
and a white rose corsage. Mrs.
Rafferty, the bridegroom's moth
er, was gowned in plum lace
with rose corsage.
Later in the afternoon the
couple left for a wedding trip to
the north. They will make their
hdrne at 714 North Sixth street
in Grants Pass, Mr. Rafferty hav
ing been transferred to that city
by California Oregon Power
company.
For a going-away ensemble
the bride wore a burgundy crepe
dress with black accessories and
a corsage of white roses.
Among out-of-town guests at
tending the ceremony were the
bridegroom's aunt, Mrs. William
Morton of Poland, Mr. and Mrs.
Dick Rafferty and son Douglas
of Nevada City and Mr. and Mrs.
Arthur Iverson of Klamath
Falls.
A number of pre-nuptial
affairs feted the bride.

All Valley School
Student Concert
December 8 Event
A chorus and orchestra, com
posed of a combined personnel
of 270 Rogue River valley school
students, will be presented in
concert at the Holly theater here
December 8 at 8:15 o'clock.
Two accomplished and well
known musicians will travel to
Medford from Seattle for the
specific purpose of directing the
event. Directing the chorus will
be Charles Lawrence of the Uni
versity of Washington. Mr. Law
rence spent the summer in Eur
ope studying music and is espe
cially competent in the direction
field.
Another University of Wash
ington man, Walter Welke, will
direct the band. Before joining
the Seattle college's music staff,
Mr. Welke was assistant director
at University of Michigan. At
University of Washington he is
director of the well known
marching and symphonic bands.
The directors will arrive in Med
ford three days prior to the
opening night to rehearse with
the participants.
The concert, first of its kind
to ever be held here, is expected
to become an annual event with
a permanent chorus and instru
mental group with directors be
ing imported here from all over
the United States. The musical
body would also be available to
assist on visiting artists' pro
grams. Included in the personnel are
an acapella choir of thirty from
Grants Pass, numerous students
from all the valley's smaller
schools and 140 members of the
high school chorus. Seventy
pieces compose the band
Tickets for the performance
may be purchased starting to
morrow, at Pruitt's Music-Radio
Center, 111 West Main street.
Seats are reserved there also.
Humphrey Home Is
Scene of Parties
Miss Vera Humphrey and her
father, I. H. Humphrey enter
tained at Thanksgiving dinner at
their home on Genesee street,
Dr. and Mrs. Sherman L. Divine
and Goodwin Humphrey.
Mrs. Goodwin Humphrey and
daughter JoAnn spent the
Thanksgiving holiday in Corval
lis where they visited Mrs. Hum
phrey's parents, Mr. and Mrs
C. M. Dinwiddle. They expect
to return to their home here to
day. On Friday evening, Miss Hum
phrey entertained Mr. and Mrs.
Paul Anderson of Central Point
and Miss Mildred Patterson of
Milton-Freewater at dinner.
Miss Patterson is the house
guest of the Andersons. She for
merly taught school in Phoenix
and is now a teacher at Mc
Loughlin high school She is well
known here and spent some time
visiting in the city last summer.

Kelly Brooks entertained at her
home on North Central avenue.

The Medford canton and Lad
ies' Auxiliary will have a special
meeting Friday, December 1, at
the I.O.O.F. hall at 6:30 o'clock.
Dinner will be served.
At 8 o'clock a joint meeting of
the canton and auxiliary will be
called to order by Captain O. O.
Hull and President Jessie How
ard, for annual review and in
spection. General Watkins, commanding
officer of all Oregon cantons and
Lady Watkins, representative of
the nurses choir of Harrisburg,
Ethyl Weed, state president of
Medford, and Charlotte Martin,
state vice president of Klamath
Falls will pay an official visit to
the Medford lodge and conduct
the inspection and review.
Charlotte Martin will have
charge of the review, and State
President Ethyl Weed will give
a helpful message for all mem
bers. The committee on arrange
ments consists of Carrie McDan
nel, Grace Hamlin and Lottie
Howard. Any member wishing
further" information regarding
the meeting may call any of the
committee. All members are
asked to meet at the I.O.O.F.
