mitted a low bid of $326,968
for (trading and surfacing 4.1
miles of highway between the
top of Bass hill and O'Brien
summit and construction or a
375-foot viaduct on the reloca
tion of U. S. highway B9 around
Shasta dam in Shasta county.
The project is a portion of
15.35 miles of highway reloca
tion necessary because the pres
ent highway will be flooded by
the reservoir to be formed when
Shasta dam la completed In
1943.
Boy's Spleen Broken
In "Touch" Football

of Oregon freshman, Is critically
ill In a local hospital following
an Injury sustained in an inter
fraternity 'touch' football game
The youth's spleen was rup
tured and was removed in an
operation. After several blood
transfusions attendants said to
day he will probably recover.
HOLLYWOOD SLAYING
TERMED GANG ACTION
Hollywood, Cnl., Nov. 24.
(IP) George Schachter, 48, a
clothing, dealer, was shot to
death in front of his home last
night In what police said was
apparently a gangland killing.
Two men In a black sedan
without license plates drew up
beside Schachters automobile,
as the victim arrived at his
house late yesterday, and shot
him three times In the mouth,
cheek and throat.

Belgians literally threw fits to
escape service In the army, the
government charges today as it
held two nurses and a hospital
attendant accused of collecting
$30 to $150 from each man for
instruction In simulating the
symptoms of epilepsy.

ALASKA FLIER KILLED
LANDING IN SNOWSTORM
Fairbanks, Alaska, Nov. 24.
(IP) Blinded by a snowstorm
and apparently thinking he was
over the Fairbanks airport,
Pilot Morris Johnson, one of
Alaska s leading commercial
filers, landed his plane in a
brushy area, a half mile south
of the airport late yesterday. His
plane was -wrecked and he was
killed Jn the wreckage.
He was flying without pas
sengers on a return trip from
Jack Wade creek.

lice today raided the offices of
the Ncuo Baslcr Zeitung, a pro
Nazi newspaper which has a
large circulation in Germany
and almost none in Switzerland.
Authorities said a number of
documents were seized.
