Cross. There will be another meeting

sale of pot holders In the near fu
ture. Anyone who can make one or
more to help the youngsters out are
asked to do so. They may be turned
over to any 4-H club member or the

contest for collection of sales slips
for Bulletin advertisers. All members
are reminded to bring their slip to
next meeting, November 31. At this
meeting the lecture hour progrnra Is
to be put on by group No. 6, con
sisting of twenty members appointed
by Wm. Q. Darby, past lecturer.

Fifteen attended the H.E.C.
meeting of Gold Hill Grange No
vember 14. Mrs. Effie Birdsey,
guest speaker, told interesting
early history of the Rogue val
ley and the Indians. She also
spoke of the extension service
of Jackson county. Other visit
ors were Mrs. Mnry Mattson of
Rogue River, and Mrs. Othelln
Strahn of Rock Point.
Mrs. Edith Kenyon was re
elected chairman for 1940 and
Mrs. Hazel Shuntcrman, vice
hairman.
The ladies voted to have- a
turkey dinner at the hall next
H.E.C. meeting, November 28,
before meeting.

Central Point Grange hall No
vember 6, when 325 members
were present in the evening
About 100 attended the after
noon session. It is estimated
about 400 attended the confer
ence.

The army is handing out pro
motions with pay raises to near
ly 30,000 soldiers, as a result
of the recent increases in the
number of men under arms.
Officials estimated today that
within the next few weeks 178,
678 of an expanded regular army
of 220,798 would hold gradei
ranging from coiporal to master
sergeant, or will be rated ai
specialists of various kinds.
The promotions mean pay of
from $42 to $137 a month for
the advanced grades, compared
with the $21 received by a pri
vate. A specialist s rating la
worth a pay increase of from $3
to $30 a month beyond the pri
vate stipend.
