Cities reported the effect of
the quake as follows:
Seattle Walls In Pacific Tele
phone and Telegraph company
and other downtown buildings
cracked. Residents fled from
homes in night clothes and thea
ter patrons flocked into streets.
Many residents reported three
distinct shocks that rocked
blildings. swayed traffic lights
and rattled windows. Shock
general throughout city.
Police Flee Building.
Several long cracks appeared
In the public safety building,
and policemen fled from the
structure when plaster fell on
their assembly room floor. A
piece of cement facing dropped
from the Newberry 10-cent store
on Second avenue; plumbing
fixtures dropped two Inches out
of plumb.
Vancouver, B. C. Houses
shook and windows rattled but
no damage reported. Shock felt
throughout residential sections
and householders reported two
distinct shocks within a few sec
onds. Victoria, B. C. Two shocks
reported in Victoria district. The
seismograph at the Astro-Physical
observatory on Little Sann
ich mountain recorded only one
shock, no damage.
Tacoma Hundreds fled Into
streets as houses trembled, win
dows rattled and chandeliers
swung to and fro. Corner of
National Bank of Washington
fell six floors to alley. Fire on
St. Paul Lumber and Timber
company's wharf quickly extin
guished. General in Portland.
Portland Shock general in
Portland area, Oregon City, Es-
tacada, Oak Grove, but unre
ported south of city. Falling
pictures and cracked plaster
only damage. Astoria and Sea
side on coast reported shocks.
Olympia N. M. Beck, night
watchman at state capitol, said
it felt inside huge structure as
"though the whole building was
Jumping up and down." Broke
some glass in capitol, shook
chandeliers loose and plaster fell
froln ceilings and walls.
Aberdeen Several power
lines disrupted and water mains
broken. Plaster cracked,
Raymond Dishes broken,
Wallpaper cracked, lumber piles
tipped over. Lookout John
Smith, Jr., at North Cove const
guard station, said shock caused
large ocean swell and violent
rocking of the lookout tower.
lloqulam Two shocks felt,
totaling 30 seconds to one min
ute. Few windows reported
broken. Residents left homes
and gathered downtown.
Longview Some plaster dam
age reported.
Spokane Apparently not felt
in Spokane proper, but report
from Cheney, 19 miles west of
Spokane, said pictures were
moved and dishes rattled.
Everett City hall rocked but
no serious damage reported
throughout city. Great North
ern railroad officials said shake
felt heavily in Cascade but tun
nel between Scenic and Barsten
unharmed.
Licllinsham Felt only mildly.
No damHge.
Bremerton Felt heavily but
no material damage reported.
Auburn Section of brick
chimney fell at Junior high
school, dropping through roof
into boiler room. Considerable
plaster was knocked down. One
woman was temporarily locked
in her home when the door sag
ged so she couldn't open it.

proposed to be raised by taxation for the ensuing year as published here

against any of the proposed tax levies herein as the County Court may
deem for the best Interest of Jackson County.
The County Budget Committee for Jackson County Oregon, has pre
pared end submits the following: An estimate of the amount required
for each department of County government. County office and County
officer, each County improvement of each County building, structure or
Institution, the aalary of each County officer or employee. Including those
whose salarlea are fixed by statute, for the improvement and mainten
ance of public highways, roads, bridges, the construction, operation and
maintenance of each public utility and redemption of outstanding war
rants, the estimate of public receipts of the County from sources other
than direct taxation upon real and personal property In the County during
the period for which such tax Is to be levied and an estimate of the
probable unapportloned and unexpended balance In the funds of the
County on the last day of the current year. The officers' salaries, the
County School Fund for 10100 children at S10 00 per child, the County
School and School Library Fund for 10100 chi:dren at .10 cents per child
and the County Library Fund at .0002 of a mill are fixed by law.

mate of the probable expensea of said County for the ensuing year and
probable receipts from sources other than direct taxation upon real and

mate of the probable unapportloned or unexpended balance In the various

who have been staying with
their aunt, Mrs. Bill Webber,
and attending Derby school, left
Monday to join their parents In
Klamath rails.
Al Roblson hsd the misfortune
to break his truck near P D. Hill's
Monday. He had on a load of lum
ber. No one was hurt.
Frtends and neighbors are grieved
to learn of the passing of John Al
len. All extend sympathy to his
family.
Mrs. Jsck Lorlon and son Bobby
of Butte Falls stopped In at Frank
Hill's Thursdsy en route to Medford
for medical care for Bobby. Mrs.
Hill accompanied them Into town.
Ladles club met at Derby school
