Maginot and Poilu Blue,
Trench Brown and Plane
Gray Fashionable Colors
By Allc. Maxw.ll
Paris. Oct. 27. ;P) Magi
not and poilu blue, trench
brown, plane gray and legion
red were the dominating colors
in mid-season collections of new
military fashions shown today.
The shows were given in spite
of the war, but greatly under
its influence.
This feminine wear included
coats and suits with big military
style pockets 10 to 20 inches
long. Some new models by
Schiaparelli showed swinging
saddle pockets, some in fur and
others in elaborately braided
fabrics.
Many suits had leather-trimmed
pockets swung in knapsack
style from the shoulder. Dresses
had front pockets swung from
belts.
Adjustable Skirts
Apart from the military motif
were new "washerwoman
frocks, featuring skirts adjust
able at the hips for day length I
or ankle length for evenings.
Ostrich and COQ toques were
shown with these dresses.
Military-style coats had turn
over collars, gold buttons and
belts. Some copied trench coats.
Wool jersey dresses showed
military touches at the collar
points which were of red velvet
and gold, embroidered with va
rious French army insignia.
Tweed suits featured a wrap
around skirt worn over bloomers
or plus-fours in a bright, con
trasting color which matched
accompanying blouses and hats.
Many soft, fold-up hats were
ihown with the military models.
COLD CUTS, CHEESE WITH BEANS
Always popular because it offers a variety, is the appetizing
:ombination pictured here with a selection of cold cuts, with a
jood cheese, sliced pickles and Van Camp's pork and beans in
individual servings.
Served with rye bread in whole slices for sandwiches and hot
mustard, with a simple fruit side dish of sliced bananas and
oranges, this combination never fails to make a hit. It is quickly
prepared without kitchen fuss and is suited ideally for a Sunday
night supper or any half-holiday luncheon. Oatmeal cookies fit
well with this combination and either iced tea or coffee.
The above sample menu suggestion from the booklet "28
Meal-in-aminute Recipes" may be had without charge by writing
to the Home Dietitian, Van Camp's, Inc., Indianapolis. These
recipes and menus are in the convenient card file size and are
easily detached from the booklet.

Brown, Eagle Point, foreman,
yesterday afternoon. The grand
jury then recessed subject to
call.
Fred Lorentzen, Jr., and Jas
per roster, residing near Eagle
Point, were indicted on charges
of burglary not in a dwelling.
They stand accused of the rob
bery of the Faber grocery store
at Butte Falls last July and the
taking of $52 in cash, and candy
ana cigarettes. The pair were
arrested at Long Beach, Cal.,
a few days later and have been
in custody here since.
Three Secret
The other three indictments
will be kept secret until those
named are placed in custody,
District Attorney F. J. Newman
said.
The grand jury, in its report,
holds the auto-pedestrian acci
dent on West Main street last
October 15 in which Mrs. Dan
Miller sustained ratal injuries
was "unavoidable" in sofar as
Elvin E. Cook, driver of the
car. was concerned.
The report reads:
"This grand jury investigated
the accident occurring on West
Main street, Medford, Oct. 15,
1939, wherein the car driven by
Elvin E. Cook collided with Mr.
and Mrs. Dan Miller, resulting
in the death later of Mrs. Miller,
and after a careful investigation
of all circumstances in connec
tion therewith, wish to report
there is no evidence that would
warrant criminal action being
taken in said matter, as in our
opinion, the accident was un
avoidable, so far as the driver
of the car was concerned."
The district attorney reported
the grand jury also investigated
two or three matters that will
be completed when the body is
called into session again.
