charge of drunkenness. Frank
McBride, 68, charged with
drunkenness, was sentenced to
10 days in jail provided he did
not leave town immediately. He

train for St. Louis, Mo., where
he will attend a society of auto
motive engineers. He will drive
a White truck from St. Louis to
this city for Copco. He expects
to return about November 4.
Have Baby Word was re
ceived in Medford today of the'
birth of a girl yesterday to Mr.
and Mrs. Robert E. Kelly in
Roseburg. The baby weighed
seven pounds and 14 ounces. She
is the fourth grandchild of Mrs.
E. E. Kelly of 911 Queen Anne
avenue. The father is a former
Medford resident.
Airport Arrivals Today's ar
rivals at Medford municipal air
port included Maj. C. A. Bond,
commanding officer of Pearson
field. Vancouver, Wash., piloting
a nortn American basic trainer;
and Capt. J. P., Kenny of Dun
can field near San Antonio,
Texas, in a North American
basic trainer. Captain Kenny
arrived from Seattle. Wash., and
was to continue southward alter
his plane had been serviced. He
was on a routine trans-country
practice flight. Major Bond
came from Pearson field to make
an inspection of the air corps
unit here. He was accompanied
by Sgt.-Major Larry Turner.
The two were to return to Pear
f son field later In the afternoon.
William Piper, president of the
Piper Aircraft corporation of
Lockhaven. Pa., left this morn
ing in a Piper Cub for Portland,
after spending the night here.
He arrived late yesterday from
Redding. Cal.. Henry Houghton
left yesterday in a Cessna plane
for Denver, Colo. He had been
here about a month flying a
photographer. Frank Bowman,
over the national forests to get
pictures for the U. S. forest
service.
Socials Planned First of a
series of winter socials will be
held Friday evening by Town

To Carmel Miss Edith
Sweeney, daughter of Dr. and
Mrs. Charles T. Sweeney of the
Old Pacific highway, and Miss
Henrietta Janssen left yesterday
by motorcar for Carmel-by-the-Sea,
Cal., where they will spend
the winter at the Sweeney's sea
shore horn as they customarily
do each year. Dr. and Mrs.
Sweeney plan to spend the
Christmas holiday season with
them at Carmel.
Discussion Leader Leonard
B. Mayfield. principal of Med
ford senior high school, will lead
a discussion at one of the sessions
of the Oregon High School Prin
cipals' association conference in
Salem, October 27 and 28. It
will be the association's 11th
annual conference. The confer
ence is expected to draw prac
tically all of the 300 principals
of public and private senior high
schools and the 35 principals of
junior high schools of Oregon,
as well as city and county school
superintendents and representa
tives of teacher-training insti
tutions of the state.

Bags Two Deer After hunt
ing unsuccessfully several days
for a mule deer in eastern Ore
gon, H. C, Obye, assistant super
visor of the Rogue River na
tional forest, went into the Ap
plegate woods yesterday and in
short order shot down two black
tail deer. One weighed 165 and
the other 140 pounds. Obye,
hunting alone, left Medford at
9 a. m. and by 11:15 he had
his two deer. Trying their luck
before the hunting season ended
this evening. W. L. Jones, con
struction superintendent, and
Simeri Jarvi, fire chief of the
Rogue River national forest,
took to the woods todav. Jarvi
bagged a deer earlier in the season.
Building Office Work was
proceeding today on the erec
tion of a four-room office for
the district ranger of the Rofrue
River national forest at Union
Creek. It is to be much larger
and more commodious than the
present office which has become
inadequately small, forest head
quarters said, adding that it is
being built especially to accom
modate the traveling public. It
will have a large lounge and
lavatory facilities for travelers,
and travel information will be
available, headquarters said.
Travel has increased so much in
the forest areas, and especially
through the Union Creek gate
way, that more commodious ac
commodations have become im
perative, it was explained. The
building will be of rustic frame
construction. It is being built
by CCC enrollees under the sup
ervision of H. Barnhart, project
superintendent of the South
Fork CCC camp. It is to be
completed by January 1.
Conroy Diet Mrs. R. J. Con
roy of 201 Crater Lake avenue
received word recently of the
death of her father-in-law. David
Conroy, in Edmonton, Alberta.
Canada. Mr. Conroy was 102
years old at the time of his
death, October 13. He was the
father of the late Dr. Robert J.
Conroy, prominent Rogue valley
doctor. The elder Mr. Conroy
visited his son in this city a
number of years ago.

served in some form on all its
menus during "National Apple
Week." October 28 to November
4. More than 9.600 meals are
served aloft on the company's

More Park Snow Another
half inch of snow fell in Crater
Lake national park last night,
making the ground cover four
inches deep at headquarters this
morning, rangers reported by
short wave radio. Temperature
at the time of broadcasting. 8
a. m., was 15 degrees. The
south and west entrance roads
were open to the lake rim but
were icy and tire chains were
advised. North and east!
entrances were still closed, no
effort being made to keep these
entrances open during the win
ter. The weather this morning
was described as partly cloudy
but with good visibility.
Face Federal Charges Four
men were being held in Jack
son county jail today on charges
of selling liquor to Indians, a
federal offense. The men were
listed as John Gray, 39, John
Perkins, 33. and Pete Harkey,
23. all of Klamath Falls, and
Arthur Laddrout. 27, of Chilo
quin. They are all facing liquor
selling charges for the first time
and so they will be arraigned
in U. S. district court on infor
mation, it was stated by Paul
Hanlin, deputy marshal, who
transferred the men from Klam
ath Falls to the jail here. Cases
of alleged second offenders go
to the grand jury. Mr. Hanlin
explained. Gray and Perkins
had preliminary hearings before
U. S. Commissioner Bert Thomas
in Klamath Falls and were
bound over. Harkey and Ladd
rout waived preliminary hear
ings Bail was set at S2500 in
each case. Mr. Hanlin returned
to Klamath Falls last night on
another official mission.

because, according to advance
