Gridiron Warfare
With Predictions
I. Pickem bounces out of his
block-house todny, slightly shell
shocked from the effects of the
first month of the annual grid
war but still able to unload
both barrels at a dozen head
line encounters. A few more at
tacks by underdog teams
though, and Pickem will be
forced to invoke his mutual as
ilstance pact with Henry Mc
Elmore and have company be
hind the eight ball.
Of special Interest to fans to
day is Pickem's prediction of
the week-ends big upset, named
further down in this colyum.
So with a last-minute glance at
the crystal ball and reports of
his special operatives, the prog
nosticator cuts loose as follows:
Mcdford-Klamath Falls: Mr.
Pickem has had a sink
ing f e 1 1 n g in his stom
ach all week concerning
this southern Oregon grid
classic. Medford should win;
the Tigers boast the speed,
endurance and dofensive and
offensive equipment n c e fr
iary lo wallop their most bit
ter rival s but, try as he
might Pickem can't get rid
of the very unpleasant hunch
that the Pelicans are going to
win. Perhaps one reason for
this feeling is that the Tigers
have boen very weak on con
verting extra points after
touchdowns (only five out of
19 attempt!, to date), and the
game is bound to be very,
very close. Whatever the
reasons for that terrible
hunch it simply won't disap
pear, so with crossed fingers
and hopes thai he is dead
wrong. Pickem calls it: Klam
ath 13, Modford 12.
OreRon-Gonzngn: The Zay.s
may give the Webfoots quite a
battle, might even score, but
Oliver's boys will get over the
hurdle by a 20 to 7 tally.
UCLA-Montuna Poor Mon
tana, down there In the Los
Angeles weather. The Bruins by
live touchdowns.
California-Washington State;
Neither team is overly strong
this season but the Golden Bears
hould be able to clnw the Cou
gars In Berkeley, 13 to 0.
Idaho-Utah: The Vandals,
atrictly an in-and-out aggrega
tion, will have one of their bad
days and the Utcs will cop,
1 to 0.
Oregon Stale-Washington.
Those Washington Huskies
can't go on losing foreveri
t h e r e's too much material
hanging around. Oregon State
looked bad In beating Idaho,
1 to 6, and Portland, 14 to 12.
This Is the week's big upset.

Tennesseo-A 1 a b a m a. A na

this southern gigantic. Plckem'll

Notre Dame-Navy. The navy

It .should be against Wisconsin.

Oregon Plays Gonzaga, Bea
vers Meet Washington,
UCLA Entertains Montana
By the Associated Press.
A game between the two
"giant killers" of Pacific coast
football, San Jose and the Col
lege of the Pacific, is a headline
attraction on this week-end's
light pigskin program.
Both undefeated, San Jose
and Pacific clash at Stockton,
Cal., tonight in a battle much
more significant than just a
meeting of two teams of better
than average caliber. The game
will put Amos Alonzo Stagg and
Glenn S. "Pop" Warner on op
posite sides of the field for the
first time In 32 years.
Both Undefeated.
Stagg is coach of the Pacific
Bengals, who have beaten South
Dakota and University of Cali
fornia in what likely will go
down as the season's biggest up
set. Warner Is advisory coach
at San Jose State, the team
which has won six straight
games this season, Including an
upset of the University of San
Francisco.
Two Pacific Coast conference
games tomorrow will pit Wash
ington State against University
of California at Berkeley and
Oregon State against University
of Washington at Seattle.
California will be a favorite
to beat the Cougars.
Oregon Favored.
Oregon State, 12 to 0 victor
over Stanford in its only con
ference encounter, had close
calls In beating Idaho. 7 to 0,
and Portland university, 14 to
12. The Beavers will be up
against a squad of Huskies
beaten three games In a row.
U.C.L.A. entertains Montana
In a non-conference game to
morrow, while the Oregon
Ducks, leading the league with
two victories, figure to take
things ensy In a game with Gon
zaga at Eugene.
Stanford and Southern Cali
fornia do not play this Satur
day. St. Mary's and Santa Clnra
will meet Saturday In a tradi
tional affair.

DEFEAT G. PASS
FROSH, 18 ID 6
The Medford Junior high
school football team smashed
across two touchdowns in the
fourth quarter at the stadium
last night to break a 6 to B tie
and defeat a heavy Grants Pass
freshman aggregation, 18 to 8,
before over 1,000 spectators.
Isaacs, halfback, scored the
first fourth-period touchdown
on a reverse over the Grants
Pass right tackle from 11 yards
out. The score climaxed a 45
yard march that started late in
the third heat.
In the last two minutes of
play tiie locals scored again, on
a 20-yard aerial shot from Bar
ker to Isaacs, the latter catching
the ball in the right flat and
shaking off two tacklcrs to
reach the end zone.
Medford tallied first, in the
opening minutes of the second
quarter after a punting duel in
the first period set the baby
Cavemen back on their heels.
On the last play of the first
quarter Cliff Jones, fullback,
shot a 20-yard forward pass lo

BITTER STRUGGLE
EXPECTED WHEN
PETE MEETS NAZI
What may well turn Into the
most bitterly fought wrestling
match of the past six months
goes on in next Monday night's
armory main event, the competi
tors being Pete Belcastro, the
wild-eyed Eyetalian from Weed
and Hans Schulz, the horrible
Hun who has yet to lose a local
match in six weeks of campaign
ing. Promoter Mack Llllard signed
the pair yesterday after Bel
castro raged and ranted for over
a week for another crack at the
gigantic German. Pete, confi
dent he can whack the Nazi, de
manded the match and Schulz,
apparently afraid of nothing that
walks, readily agreed. With six
consecutive victories under his
belt Schulz feels certain he is
destined to go on winning for
ever, a theory not subscribed to
by Bolcastro.
Pete has many logical reasons
on which to base his confidence
of being able to put a stop to
tne bentuz victory streak. In
the first place, Pete points out,
he came within a gnat's whisker
of doing it two weeks ago, and
but for an unfortunate Jaunt
through the ropes and onto the
hard floor outside the ring he
would have tamed the Teuton
Terror. Belcastro also claims to
be faster and smarter than the
German, and at least as unor
thodox.
Cowboy Dude Chick, latest
victim of the Schulz power, will
attempt to get back in winning
form against Dave Levin in the
middle event. This match will
see the unusual situation of two
former world champions locking
grips. Chick is an ex-junior
heavyweight title-holder, while
Levin held the heavyweight
crown for a short time.
El Pulpo and Speed LaRance,
a pair of classy cleanies, will
meet in the six-round initial
struggle.
downed on the one-yard line.
Barker then rammed over his
own right tackle for the score.
The lone Grants Pass touch
down came in the early part
of the third quarter. Halfback
Morton spun over Medford's
right tackle on a double reverse
for 21 yards and the score.
No extra points were made
after the touchdowns, Medford
attempting one place kick,
which was wide, and two line
plunges. Grants Pass tried one
line plunge.

DeCorrevont Denies Charge

EVANSTON. 111., Oct. 20. (UP) The storm finally broke
around Bill DeCorrevont's blond head today over a charge North
western's line refuses to block for the most widely publicized
sophomore halfback in football history..
Bill denied it with fire in his

DeCorrevont has been the ob

first appearance in the frestiman-

Chicago prep school star entered
Northwestern with as many
