Two deaths which occurred
in Grants Pass last week cast
a gloom over Rogue River as
they were mothers of two men
here. On October 8 Mrs. Min
erva Dengler passed away at her
home. She was the mother of
Fred Dengler. On Thursday Mrs.
Ella O'Kelly passed away. Her
son Is Fred CKelly of this city.
Their many friends here extend
sympathy in their loss.
Mrs. Hattie Harris arrived
here October 8 from her home
In Lewiston, Idaho, and wli'
spend the winter with her sis
ter, Mrs. Myrtle Whipple, and
husband.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Sandry
arrived home Saturday from a
visit of several weeks with their
daughter, Mrs. Dorris Grim, and
husband, of Bismarck, N. D.
They were accompanied back
from Casper, Wyo., by Mrs. Al

Grants Pass Wednesday. One of
the features of the evening was
an old fashioned sermon and
communion service.

man Is staying with her.
Mrs. Gladys Heath left last
week to attend the postmasters
convention in Washington, D.
C, and will represent all third
class postmasters of the entire
country. An address given at
a regional meeting recently so
pleased postal authorities that
they appointed Mrs. Heath as
third class representative.

left Sunday for Bend where they
will visit Mr. and Mrs. Elmer
Whipple for a few days. Be
fore returning home they will
go to Eugene to visit Mr. Whip
ple's daughter, Mrs. Alice Rob

Jacksonville Grange
Jacksonville Grange met In
regular session October 13 with
good attendance and several vis
itors. Agriculture Committee Chair
man H. E. Conger reported that
due to the Huber packing plant
fire, hog prices had declined
and tnnt shipments of livestock
to Portland had been resumed.
H. E.C. chairman Leora Nied'
ermeyer stated that plans for
the forthcoming turkeys dinner
Friday, October 20, were com
plete. The ladies will start serv
ing In the dining room at the
old court house in Jacksonville
at 6 p. m. The program fol
lowing will be in charge of tha
Jackson County Chamber of
Commerce.
Next serving committee will
be Mr. and Mrs. Wynne Arnold,
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Nleder
meyer and Blanche Arnold.
Ways and means committee
reported an enjoyable card
party held October 7.

Eighty-seven Grangers and
families and friends enjoyed a
covered dish dinner preceeding
the regular Grange meeting last
Tuesday in Phoenix Grange hall.
Members of the home econo
mics committee were In charge
of the dinner.
During the lecture hour a spe
cial demonstration by represen
tatives of the Bar-Bell club ot
Medford was given. Those who
gave a very unusual and Inter
esting performance were Cecil
Barker, Don Wilder, and Norval
Stockstill.

master of ceremonies.
