On The Bounty" presents an authen
tic -visual document of one of the
most notable chapters of maritime
history the mutiny on the H. M. 5.
Bounty 150 years ago. In the annals
of the sea there Is no more fasci
nating story than that told of the
Bounty which set sail from England
in 1787. bound for Tahiti.
In charge was Captain Bllgh. a
cruel, harsh taskmaster. Storms
lengthened the voyage, food ran low
and as Bllgh's temper Increased he
raged at hie underfed and embittered
crew. The golden days that followed
the arrival at Tahiti temporarily
quieted his men, but shortly after
the start of the return voyage Bllgh's
tyranny brought rebellion to the
breaking point and his men rose In
mutiny. Then followed adventures
that have never since had their
equal In naval history; Bllgh and his
16 loyal seamen sailing 4,000 miles
In an open boat; escaping mutineers
seeking refuge with the native wives;
Bllgh's return and the capture of
several of the mutineers; another
shipwreck and Bllgh again In an
open boat at the mercy of the sea
on a 3 ,000 -mile cruise; and the final
court-martial back In England with
all Its tragedy and faded hopes.
Clark. Gable is cast as Fletcher
Christian, leader of the mutineers;
Charles Laughton plays Captain
Bllgh; and Pranchot Tone plays Mid
shipman Byran one of the romantic
members of the mutinous crew.

PORTLAND, Ore., Oct. 1 -(API-
Agricultural conditions in Oregon re
ceived a setback In September be
cause rainfall was only 70 per cent
of normal in the western section and
SO per cent normal In tho eastern
part of the state, the United States
department of agriculture said to
day. Moisture Is urgently needed, par
ticularly in the eastern Oregon wheat
areas, the department's October crop
report said. Pasture and range c n
dltlons also are poor.
The 1939 Oregon wheat crop was
29 per cent under a year ago and
18 per cent below average. Ttal
production for the north wear, in
cluding Oregon. Washington, Idaho,
and Montana, was estimated at 133,
449.000 bushels, 25 per cent under a
year ago.

street as headquarters for the ticket
pale. Miss Bessie Dean of the Hunt

will be installed for this particular

cert Series Boxofflce will be 725.
The outstanding attraction of the
series, which will have three excep
tional stars, will, of course, be the
noted colored contralto. Marian An
derson. Miss Anderson will be remem
bered as the storm center of the
now-historical feud between the
D.A.R. and Mrs. Roosevelt, wife of
the president of the United States.
When the D.A.R. refused to allow
Marian Anderson to sing tn their
hall at Washington, Mrs. Roosevelt
made the statement that she would
not be associated with a group that
drew such a fine "color line", and
l tendered her resignation from the
organization. Be that as It may.

out with unreserved critical acclaim.

terbomg to Switzerland, heretofore
a relatively quiet area.
The bridges destroyed were those
connecting Haguenau and Rastadt,
Colmar and Prlbourg-en-Brlsgau and
Mul house and Mulhelm. Only two
bridges remain across this portion at
the historic river, both at Stras
bourg, where they are Incorporated
in the Maginot and Siegfried lines.
