return to the park today. It is ex
pected that the court session will
be completed In another week. The
park staff occupies the court's quar
ters in the federal building during
the winter season. Four to five Inches
of snow fell In the park yesterday,
Mr. Parker said. Snow flurries had
occurred off and on for several weeks
but the snow had melted as quickly
as it had fallen, he said. Mr. Leavltt,
he related, la attending a conference
of national park superintendents and
park service executives from Wash
ington. D. 0.. in Santa Fe, N. M. The
conference was to continue until i
about October 12 and then Mr. Leav
ltt was to take a vacation, Mr. Parker
said. The superintendent was ex
pected to return to Medford about
November 1. Meantime his mother.
Mrs. Anna Leavltt. who makes her
home here. Is visiting daughters in

RAZE HUE HAZARD
IN CENTRAL AREA
Five private wooden garages facing
the alley extending from East Main
street to Sixth street between Cen
tral avenue and Front street were
being razed today as fire hazards.
The demolition was being done under
supervision of Fire Chief Roy Elliott.
The garages were owned by Mrs.
Kate Young, through whose permis
sion and cooperation the buildings
were being torn down. Chief Elliott
expressed his appreciation of Mrs.
Young's cooperation in removing the
fire hazard.
More than 100 old buildings con
sidered fire hazards have been re
moved since Mr. Elliott became chief
of the Medford fire department.
UNDERGO CHECK
WASHINGTON. Oct. 6. (Pi The
federal power commission disclosed
today that It had 38 engineers and
accountants working in the field to
check original costs of companies
within the Jurisdiction of the fed
eral power act.
Data obtained will be brought to
the Washington office for filing for
possible use in rate proceedings.
Thirteen groups of three : men ench
are conducting the surveys under di
rection of M. W. yanScoyoc, chief
of the division of original costs.
They went Into the field about two
weeks ago and will be at the work
for several more.
The groups went to Scotts Bluff,
Nob., Los Angeles, Cal., Medford and
Portland, Ore., and Santa Fe, N. M,
