pany at a total cost of about 93,
855,000, according to announcement
by A. D. McDonald, president of the
railroad.
In addition. Southern Pacific Is
buying approximately 19,300 tons of
rail fastenings for use on Its Pacific
lines, at a cost of about 11,175,000,
It was stated.
CHICAGO, Oct. 5. (AP) A $21,
000,000 program of Improvement and
new equipment for the Santa Fe
railway was announced today by
President Edward J. Bngel.
It Involved purchase of 91,000 tons
of rail and fastenings, 2,800 new
freight 'cars, rebuilding of 2,500 box,
automobile and refrigeration cars In
Its own shops, an accelerated pro-,
gram of locomotive and car repairs
and double -tracking of a : 24-mlle
stretch of main line In Arizona.
NEW YORK, Oct. S. (AP) The
Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe rail
way today added $10,000,000 to the
big sums to be spent In this coun
try for railway equipment, ships and
aircraft.
The Santa Fe program calls for an
outlay of $10,000,000, Including pur
chase of 1800 box care, 200 ballast
cars, 250 gondolas, 450 refrigerator
cars and 100 flat cars.

way- today for distribution of ap
proximately $2,900,000 among Klam
ath and Modoc Indians or Oregon.
.Rep.- Walter Pierce (D., Ore.) was
advised Ickes had approved proced
ure for disbursement of the funds,
part of a $5,313,347 supreme court
award in settlement of a tribal lands
suits against the government.
Each adult having a reservation
allotment -will receive $2,000, Pierce
said, $100 of It In cash. The remain
ing $1,900 will be placed to the credit
of Individual Indians for use In de
veloping and acquiring property.
Each minor will have $100 placed
In his account for supervised ex
penditures. About $1,400 will be
placed to his credit for property im
provements and $500 will be held In
the treasury until he becomes of age.
Indians having no reservation al
lotments will receive $1,600 each,
with approximately $375,000 set aside
for these payments. About $300,000
of the $2,900,000 will go Into the
trial loan fund.
Pierce said the remainder of the
$5,313,347 would be held In the treas
ury to the credit of the two tribes
for future appropriation.

office department solicitor advised

high school athletic fund will be
