32,000 To Double Navy
OTTAWA, Sept. 20. (Canadian
Press) Canada summoned trained
filers today for Immediate overseaa
duty and launched organization of
a Tolunteer expeditionary force of
93,000 men to be available In event
they are needed In the European
war.
At the same time the government
ordered doubling of the naval per
sonnel and construction of "a large
number of anti-submarine craft" aa
additional measures of cooperation
with Britain.
The defense ministry said the
expeditionary force would consist of
two war strength divisions of 10,000
men each.
They will be recruited by volun
teers from the 50,000 men now under
arms In Canada, the ministry ex
plained. It was expected the first
division would be ready for overseas
servloe early In the new year.
Announcement of pinna for expan
sion of the dominion' naval forces
disclosed Canada has been cooperat
ing with the British navy In defense
of Canadian port and In convoy
work off the coast.
While Canada stepped up Its war
preparations, a naval dockyard com
mander In Halifax, N. 8., Issued a
statement saying, "Fairly reliable
reports Indicated that a submarine
may have been operating off the
Wove. Scotia coast."
A Canadian destroyer engaged In
a search for the suspected submarine,
the commander said, and dropped
a depth bomb "In a suspicious area."
The effect was not known.
The government said It anticipated

Russia was reported authoritatively i
today to have called up more army '
reservists, although the number was
not disclosed.
Unofficial sources Intimated they
were sent ' to some sector of the
western frontier, beyond which red
army forces were officially announced
aa having occupied the Industrial
city of Lwow In the southeast Polish
Ukraine.
At the aame time Soviet and Ger
man offlcera started conferences aris
ing from their Joint military occu
pation of Poland.
