admission to the party this year will
be by Invitation strictly and each
child must have his ticket to present
at the door, It was explained by
William A. Gates.
As In past years, there will be
two servings to accommodate the
large crowd. The first dinner wiu
be served at 13 noon and the sec
ond a little after 1 o'clock. As be
fere members of the American Le
gion auxiliary will do the serving,
having again volunteered their serv
ices. "Grown-ups seem to get as much
enjoyment out of the banquet as
the children, for each year the same
ones volunteer to help in the serv
Ice," Mr. Gates said. He expressed his
gratitude for the offers of help.
There will be two Innovations this
year. One Is that a Girl Scout troop
will entertain the youngsters as they
; wait In the lodge room on the sec
; ond floor of the Elks temple to be
called to dinner. The other Is that
: the children' will be entertained dur-
tng the banquet by Instrumentalists
! from the Medford high school, ar-
, rangementa having been made for
this feature by F. Wilson Walt, di
rector of the high school band.
It Is only through the generosity
of the Elks lodge in offering use of
: Its temple that the big annual party
Is possible, Mr. Gates stated In ex
pressing his gratefulness to the fra
: ternlty.

! outlying districts will be convoyed

peasant atock. Intent on gaining

mised. After the collapse of hla fortunes
35 years ago and his trouble with
the police, he" vanished from sight.
A witness at Atty. Gen. John J. Ben
nett. Jr.'s Investigation today testl
fled he knew htm In World war days
aa "William Johnson." an Investiga
tor for the attorney general's office
specializing In espionage activities.
It was a far different man from
either the Philip Muslca of the old
Eaat Side, struggling for a fortune,
or the Muslca of prison days at
Auburn, who appeared on the finan
cial scene little more than a dozen
years ago .as a "doctor of philosophy"
and a "doctor of medicine" from
Heidelberg university.
And still different from the man.
who beaten at lsst In his 81 years
of good living, finding himself ap
parently no longer young enough to
try again for a spectacular career,
fired a pistol Into hla right ear and
dropped to the bathroom of his home
in Fairfield.
Backed by Bankers
The spectacular career of Coster
Mustca and his apparent Integrity
were so Impressive that In 1926 a
group of Connecticut bankers backed
him with a million dollars when he
expressed the desire to acquire the
assets except real estate of McKesson
and Bobbins.
He had Impressed everybody with
whom he had come in contact.
At the Bankers club In New York
City he had associated with man to
whom the name of Muslca a man
who had cost hundreds of thousands
of dollars losses to bankswould
have been anathema. Btit they knew
Coster as the member of exclusive
clubs. In which he was regarded as
a man of cultured background; knew
him not aa a Neapolitan turned
American financier but aa a native of
Washington, D. C.
Two days ago the firm's treasurer.
Julian F. Thompson, whose suspi
cions had led him to Investigate pri
vately the financial affairs of the
crude drugs department, said he was
simply staggered and astounded,"
but still he could see no motive for
the shortage.
In 1028, he recalled, Coster had
manipulated the merger of the old
McKesson and Robblns firm with
seventeen other wholesale drug
nouses in the country.
Dominating Force
He had been the corporation's dom
inating force. He was persuasive, a
man of the world, a great financier,
executive and organizer. In 1929,
Thompson further recalled, the firm
had done a sales business of $140,
000,000. But in all the years since he at
tained his new high standing In the
financial world. Coster Muslca
thought be had carefully hidden hla
past away.
He had declined to pose for photo
graphs for trade publications and had
led a fairly secluded life for. a big
business executive. And, atrangely,
he had not attended McKesson and
Robblns meeUngs. If the other offi
cers of the corporation remarked
that, they said nothing for to them
he waa a man beyond reproach.
So it waa news to most of tbem
when Thompson revealed a little of
what he had discovered that there
waa a possibility the five Canadian
warehouses where crude drug supplies
supposedly were stored, did not exist;
and that W. W. Smith and Co., Eng-1
lt&h agent for the firm, had been 1
receiving $150,000 a year In commis
sions for sales which apparently were
never made.
In Whol Who
Most of the papers relating to the
crude drugs department, were In the
hands of Coster-Muslca or Dietrich,
and unavailable to Thompson. And
while checks were paid to the Smith
concern from the corporation' gen
eral fund, the cancelled checks al
ways went to Dietrich and not to
Thompson.
The elaborate deceit which Coster
Muslca had Imposed on the corpora
tion had extended to "Whoa Who
In America" where he had appeared
as the man of Heidelberg, seven years
younger than he actually waa.
Vernard, taken Into custody today
at hla home in Brooklyn, waa four
teen years younger. He had acted as
Canadian agent for the firm and was
rfupposed to know all about the five
big warehouses which, Asst. Atty
Gen. Joseph F. Rugglerl learned this
week, did not exist. They were merely
mailing addresses.
Vernard -Muslca did not rata Who's
Who.
That publication's publisher. A. M
Marquis, explainM in Chicago, rela
tive to Coster, that they took it for
granted "a man elected president of
an $87,000,000 concern la a man of
good reputation and standing m his
community."
