Last word received from Gage Sauden
of the U. S. N. was that he had final
ly recovered from his serious Illness
and was to be transferred from the
O. 8. 8. Relief to his own ship, the
U. S. 8- Antores, last Friday. He also
stated that he had attended tne
U. 8. C. -Notre Dame football name I
and after the game hunted up Wayne
Martin and had a short visit with
him.
Preston caro and Alfred Coke left
December 10 for Klamath Falls to
transact business.
A birthday dinner was given De
cember U by Mrs. W. A. Chtlders in
honor of the birthdays of her hus
band, Mr. W. A. Chllders, her daugh

the Derby school girls have a per
fect attendance record. Seven boys
were present every day. also. Three
days absence for entire school.
Miss Bell, our school nurse, visit
ed school and pave us the "one1
over.' She weighed us and found
we had been eating our porridge.
She promised to be back Monday,
December 13.

The funeral of Joe Shults was held
at the Presbyterian church Tuesday
afternoon. Rev. George Grewltn of
ficiated. Mrs. A. W. Love and daugh
ter, Maxlne, of Grants Pass sang
three beautiful numbers. Interment
In the Rcgue River cemetery. Wil
liam Joseph Shults was born at
Upper Lake, Lake county, Calif.,
January 5, 1876, being 63 years, 10
months and 38 days of age at the
time of his death on December 3,
1038 Joe had resided In Rogue River
for 30 years and leaves a host of
friends 'and neighbors who mourn
with his famjly. Mr. Shults was
united in marriage to Mae King at
Medford on April 33, 1800. To this
union were bora two children, Mrs.
Neva Cummlnga and Virgil Shults,
who, with the widow survive. Also
three grandsons and one grand
daughter, four brothers, John, of
Auburn, Calif., Tom of Chlco, Jesse
of Paynes Creek and George of Rd
Bluff; two sisters, Mrs. Belle Paurns
worth of Clyde, Calif., and Mrs. Mary
Dolllngs of Palo Alto, Calif.

were business visitors In Medford
Thursday.

children of McCloud, Cal., spent the
week-end with Mr. Wiley's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. James Wlloy and sister,

ard Hargltt. Ten ladles enjoyed the
