LOCAL BREWERY
PREPARING FOR
OUTPUT REVIVAL
Remodeling tnd lnitallatlon of
new eq-0-tment were under way to
day at the plant at 301 North Fir
street which Is to be operated by
the A -One Brewing company, re
cently Incorporated by Sam A. Kro-
schel and Paul B. Lehrklnd. The
property was taken over recently by
Mr. Kroschel under foreclosure.
When the present work Is com
pleted In about two weeks, produc
tion of beer will be started, Mr.
Kroechel aald. tt will be at least
three months from the time produc
tion starts until the new beer will
be put on the market, at least 90
day being required for aging, he
explained. The plant, he added, can
develop a capacity of 100 barrels a
day.
Bottled and kegged beer will be
marketed, all under the trade name
of A-l beer, Mr. KrosChel related.
A marketing organisation Is now
being built up, he added.
We are Installing the latest of
equipment and an entirely different
method of making beer will be used
than heretofore." he stated. The new
corporation took control of the plant
December 1.
Mr. Kroschel Is well known !n
the Rogue River valley, especially by
the older residents. A pioneer In
the dairy business in southern Ore
gon, he operated the Oold .Seal
Creamery for years. In recent years
he has resided In San Diego, Cal.
Mr. Lehrklnd, who has come to
Medford to work with Mr. Kroschel
In establishing a first-class brewery,
comes from a family actively en
gaged In the brewing business for
three generations. Mr. Lehrklnd him
self has had wide experience In the
business. He was formerly manager
of the Red Lodge Brewing company
In Red Lodge, Mont., and recently
waa Identified as an executive with
the San Diego brewery In San Diego,
Cal.
Production will be under the di
rection of Adolph Binder, Jr., master
brewer. Mr. Binder comes from Mil
waukee, famous for Its beer. He
was graduated from the University
of Wisconsin and the Wahl-Henlus
Brewers' Institute at Chicago. For
several years h worked with his
father, who for 14 years was brew
master and superintendent' of the
Fred Miller Brewing company, Mil
waukee. More recently the Junior
Mr. Binder was affiliated with
leading brewery, In Honolulu. He
returned from the Islands only
short time ago, Mr. Kroschel pro
curing his services through a long
friendship with his father.
With water of famed taste and
other desirable qualities to begin
with, the new company is prepaied
to produce a beer of superior stand
ard. Mr. Kroschel said. In addition
to the high quality water, the com
pany will have the advantage of ex
perienced supervision and the best
of other brew ingredients that money
can buy, he declared.

Oyster-Vegetable Stew
4 cup diced celery
2 tablespoons minced onions
1-3 cup diced carrots
1 tablespoon minced parsley
3 cups water
teaspoon salt
5 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour
3 cups milk
Let the celery onions, carrots,
parsley, water and salt simmer to
gether for 15 minutes. Press through
a coarse strainer and add to butter
and flour which have been blended.
Add milk and cook three minutes.
Stir constantly. Add oysters.
Oysters
1 cups oysters
3 tablespoons butter
cup creem
teaspoon salt
teaspoon paprika
Chop oysters and let cook for three
minutes in the butter. Add the rest
of the Ingredients. Cook until "smoking."
Cranberry-Filled Cookies
1 cup butter
3 cups granulated sugar
3 tablespoons cream
3 eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon vanilla
teaspoon salt
4 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
Cream butter until soft. Slowly
pour into sugar and beat until very
creamy. Add cream and eggs. Beat
two minutes. Mix In remaining in
gredients. Chill dough. Roll out half
the dough until It Is one-eighth of
an Inch thick. Spread with a thin
layer of thick cranberry sauce. Turn
half of the dough over on top of
the other half.
Using a sharp knife cut Into two-
Inch squares. Remove each square
to floured place and press edges to
gether with a fork. Also prick tops.
Bake the cookies for 10 minute on
grensed baking sheet.
Roll out the remaining dough and
proceed the same way or cut out
circles and spread half of the circles
with the sauce and cover with the
remaining cooky circles.

HOLLYWOOD, (UP) In the land
of pretense Hollywood the rarest
of Jewels Is a person who thinks his
Job is a "pushover" and who make
no Implied claims of genius.
Such a person Is screen writer Gor
don Kahn. Kahn is a product of
New York newspaperlng. A native
of Gotham, he went to Columbia un
iversity school of Journalism and
then worked for years as a reporter
and re-wrtte man on New York
papers.
When aaked if he had ever done
anything big as a New York reporter,
he replied:
"Well. I once scooped Damon Run
yon on sn execution story at Sing
Sing."
Chance brought him a career as a
screen writer and he has been writ
ing for pictures now for several years.
"I sold a short story to a magazine
and the story was bought by a
studio." he said. "The studio sent
for me to develop it. After that
other stories Just followed In regular
order.
"I write newspaper stories. Dozent
of them. When a studio wants a
yarn with a newspaper background,
they call on me. And my heroes art
all reporters."
Kahn says his newspaper training
has been Invaluable to him in screen
writing through having taught him
precision and brevity.
In answer to the question, "Is
screen writing hard?" he replied.
"It's a cinch. Just be entirely I
logical, a little clever and try to j
forget that you are hack writing and i
you'll get along fine." i
