theft of a black 1036 Ford sedan in.
Grants Pass last night. The car bore

park today, the weather remaining
clear, rangers reported by radio. Park
roads were open but tire chains
would be needed In the morning and
evening because of Icy conditions,
the rangers said.
On Holiday Trip Mr. and Mrs.

Catherine street were to leave by
motorcar this afternoon for Portland
where they were to be Thanksgiving
holiday guests -at the home of Mrs.
Johnson's uncle. Dr. Edward Stewart.
They planned to return to Medford
Sunday.
New Training Newly-employed

Meeting Tonight A meeting of the
executive commle of the Medlord
American Legion post will be held
at 7:30 tonight at the armory. It
wUl precede the regular semi-monthly
Legion meeting. All members of the
executive group nre urged by Com
mander Robert R. Ebcl to be present.
Returns Home The Rev. Fred M.
Weatherford of 906 North Central
avenue returned to Medford this
morning from a fortnight's trip in
Arizona and California. In Arizona,
the Rev. Mr. pfltherford, pastor of
the Church ofce Nazarene here, at
tended a district evangelistic and
Christian educational tour.
To Dedication It was expected that
Medford would be represented at
the dedication of a memorial tablet
honoring the late Jnmes W. Lewis
at the Oregon stae penitentiary In
Salem at 10 a. m. Saturday. Mr.
Lewis, who died recently, was warden
of the prison for many years. Princi
pal speaker at the dedication cere
mony will be Gov. Charles H. Martin.
Osteopaths Meet Southern Oregon
Osteopathic society held its regular
monthly meeting Monday evening ai
the home of Dr. and Mrs. W. W. How
ard, 1507 West Main street. Prio:

served a buffet supper of wild goose.
Dr. Howard was principal speaker for
the evening. The next meeting will
be held on December 19 at the home
of Dr. W. J. Crandall on Leonard
avenue in Ashland.
Confers Here Dr. A. Edward Bo
troin of Portland, assistant state
health officer and director of county
health units, conferred this morning
at the Jackson County chamber of
commerce. He was accompanied by
Dr. James Wallace of New York City,
an employe of the Chamber of Com
merce of the United States. The two
men left here for Klamath Falls.
New Light A new ornamental light
standard Is to be erected soon by the
city superintendent's department at
the alley on the east side of North
Central avenue between Main and
Sixth streets. Similar to those on
the four corners of Central and
Main, the standard will be close to
Minn's department store. Cost of
the standard was borne by Scott
Davis, owner of the store property,
said Frank H. Rogers, building In
spector. The equipment arrived yes
terday and will be put in place short
ly. Mr. Rogers stated.
PREACH AT ST. MARK'S
Bishop Benjamin D. Dagwell of
Portland will visit St. Mark's Episco
pal church here Sunday morning and
will preach the 11 o'clock service.
A special Thanksgiving Day service
will be held at the church tomorrow
morning at 10 o'clock. Tho church,
as In the past, will be decorated in a
harvest motif with fruits, vegetables
and other food stuffs which will be
distributed to the needy after church
services.

of democracy to encourage American
youth to embrace democracy with
even a great enthusiasm" that the
youth of Russia, Germany and Italy
support their national programs. Stu
dents would be taught the meaning
and history of democracy. Dr. Ludd
M. Splvey. president of the college,
explains, and would be shown that
failures of democracies have been
failures of Its leaders and not of the
system Itself.
Funds for the monument to George
Washington, in Baltimore, were rais
ed by lottery.
