LEGION LEADER
IS SPEAKER AT
The Amerloan Legionnaire knows
what war Is and he want no more
of It for himself or his children.
Robert Ebel, commander of Medford
post, told the senior htgh school as
sembly this morning. Mr. Ebel spoke
on Armistice day.
"The day Is rapidly passing whan :
the average Legionnaire will be call
ed upon for military service except- j
lng in the direst kind of emergency."
Mr. Ebel said. "A few years more
and he will have passed availability
for any type of active service. So
when the Legionnaire speaks for
peace, he speaks not for himself but
for the youth of this land, so well
exemplified at this assembly today..
"The American Legion, knowing
that the future strength, the future
progress and the future honor of
this nation depend upon the train
ing of the children of today, has
since Its inception taken a keen in
terest in our schools and has devel
oped a number of educational activ
ities through which the principles of
good citizenship and sound Ameri
canism are taught.
'The Legion believes sincerely that
our American schools provide the
avenue for this all-Important Job of
building citizenship and American
ism. It Is through our students of
today that we must build for to
morrow. In their hands we must to
morrow place the destiny of our re
public. Patriotic education forms the
basis of the American Legion's Amer
icanism program. The Stars and
Stripes are symbolic of all that our
nation stands for. Old Glory sym
bolizes our national constitution, the
law and order which our constitu
tion guarantees, and justice and In
dividual rights. Truly the flag rep
resents all that good citizenship
means."
