TO FROZEN NORTH
Mrs. Susan D. Kason and her

morning to their home on the Old
Stage road from an adventurous trip
to the frozen north.
The travellers were gone nearly
seven months snd during the untqtie
Journey Mrs, Kason was hailed as the
oldest white woman to set foot at
Port Rot, lonely outpost In the
Northwest Pasfape. The northern
voyage was made . from Montreal in
the Kascopte, a Hudson's Bay com
pany ship that once a year takes
supplies to trappers tn the northern
wastes and returns with their year's
store of furs.
The itinerary included a stop at
Craig Harbor, said to be the most
northern posioffiee city on the Amer
ican continent. The town Is on 21
lesmer Island above the Arctic circle.
Mrs. Kason related todsy that on
the voyage to the north pears were
served daily on the ship. She saw a
box of 'pears being emptied and It
was marked Bear Creek Orchards,
she said. The ship's carpenter gave
her the lid and she mailed It back
to Mrs. David Fosenberg, she added.
David and Harry Rosenberg own the
Bear Creek Orchards.
Mrs. Kason took motion pictures
during her journey and was told by
a member of the Life staff who inter
viewed her that 'she should closely
guard the films as they were unique.
The films are being processed in
New York.
Mrs. Kason and her daughter re
turned from Chicago by automobile,
taking delivery of a new car in the
