Too Hot to Handle" Is really "flood
ing the screen with excitement."
Opening its local run yesterday,
'Too Hot to Handle" should prove
to be among the most popular films
of the season. Certainly it should be
put on the "must list" of every mov
ie-goer who's ever craved action, ex
citement, and thrills! For Clark Ga
ble and Myrna Loy are doing their
stuff In a big way in this rousing
story of the newsreel cameramen who
are on the spot when anything hap
pens and when it docsn t, they
make their own news.
Of course, we wouldn't believe all
that happens during the course of
the picture. But neither do we care.
After all, motion pictures are sup
posed to bring entertainment to the
screen and, boys and girls. "Too Hot
to Handle" delivers tn no uncertain
terms. It's got that "umph" that
means the difference between good
shows and outstanding ones. And the
team of Gable and Loy. In their sixth
or seventh appearance together, once
again proves their stardom rating is
no fluke.
Gable is the ace newsreel camera
man vho, when he can't find any
thing that's newsy, makes his own
breaks all to the discomfiture of
his rivals, particularly Walter Pld
geon, his top rival. When the Jap
anese filers refuse to act like they're
expected to act and come within
range of his camera, a yank at the
firing cord of the anti-aircraft gun
does the trick. They came close
enough then plenty. When the oth
er newsreel boys try to pull a faat
one and film a faked mercy flight,
he beats them to the punch and gets
some real shots, all of which lead to
his meeting with Miss Loy, the filer.
Even though he does lose his clip
to his rival, he suceeds in scaring
another triumph by signing her up
with his company and fortune smiles
when they're only a short distance
away when a munitions ship catches
fire.
Scene following scene, each loaded
to the hilt with action and comedy
leads to the climactic sequences of
the rescue of the lest flier in the
wild Jungles of South America. You
feel like yelling at times, so tense
Is the suspense. But native voodoo Is
matched with white man'a magic and
everything comes out ail right. Melo
dramatic? Sure it's melodramatic. But
isn't that the way most of us like
It? That's what has made movies
universally nomilar and Diet urea like
Too Hot to Handle" will keep that
popularity.
