Finding no other way to cash in
on an undersized body, Narclsco H.
Guerra. 33, of San Antonio, offered
himself for sale today on the hoof
or dismantled.
Guerra asked $3,000 for hi body
as It stood, but If the purchaser
wants spare parts the price will he
proportionately higher. He asks $1,000
for an eye, an ear or an arm, and
11,500 for a leg.
The market would be necessarily
limited since Guerra stand only five
feet, four and a half Inches In his
socks, and weighs only 130 pounds.
He said he had been unable to find
' steady employment, even with the
WPA, because he was so small and
had a wife and three sons to support.

Speakers who denounced the motion
picture industry's 9250,000 national
contest for film-goers as a "dud"
received hearty acclaim last night
at the closing session of the con
vention of motion picture theater
owners of America.
Delegates asked for a resolution
either extending the contest or re
ducing the number of pictures that
participants must see in order to
answer the questions.
The association also protested
against the use of movie stars on
commercial radio broadcasts. The
theatermen claimed that the pro
grams, available at home, keep
patrons from the shows.
In an open forum discussion, the
show owners suggested that Holly
wood producers offer fewer epics
and present more pictures wl'.h a
human touch.
Portland Balks at
Woman Whitewing
PORTLAND, Nov. 3. (P) Port
land's city council, all men, shrug
ged its shoulders today and declined
to consider appointing a lady white
wing. Mrs. J. 0. Woodman, a housewife,
wrote that the men in charge didn't
know how to apply a broom to the
streets. The council refused to de
bate the fcsue because It received
"enough abuse from the outside so
there Is no reason to have it abused
from the Inside."

DETROIT DRIVER
DETROIT, Nov. 3. (UP) The
country's best truck drivers stirred
up the cinders on a city parking lot
today and when the dust had clear
ed Edson A. Smith, driver for the
Guardian Transit Corp., of Dtrolt,
held the title of "the world's most
skillful truck driver."
Smith wheeled a giant, three and
a half ton tractor -trailer type ve
hicle around the parking lot with
the greatest of ease and made those
spectators who have difficulty park
ing their automobiles extremely Jeal
ous. The truck "rodeo' was sponsored
by the American Trucking association
in convention here.
One phase of the "rodeo" required
that the contestant park the 21-
foot trailer between the two other
trailers spaced 26 feet away.

IT'S TRIAL
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 3. (p)
Twelve men were sworn in today as
a federal court Jury to try James C.
Lucas and Rufus Franklin, Alcatraz
convicts, for murder.
The Jurors were all San Francisco
business men, except one, a garment
worker.
The defense exhausted all Its 90
peremptory challenges but the prose
cution had two of Its permitted 6 re
maining when the Jury was complet
ed after more than three days of
work. More than three-score men
were examined. Most of those rejected
admitted prejudices against capital
punishment, connections with Alca
traz prison, or views concerning the
veracity of federal agents.
Farmer Plans Goat- Team
Trek To New York Fair
KESWICK. Ia.. (UP) Charlie Mc
Cartney, 40-year old Iowan, who
farms 20 acres four miles southwest
of here, it going to attend the New
York world's fair.
Hi wife and small son are going,
too.
That's not unusual.
But they're going to make the
1,150 mile trip In a homemade wagon
drawn by two eight-goat teams.
The venture, if it Is successful,
will be a much greater achievement
than the horsedrawn wagon trip
Charlie made to Chicago for the cen
tury of progress in 1936.
That trip took him 18 days. He
plans to allow himself 100 days for
the New York trip, although he be
lieves his goat teams can cover 30
miles a day.
McCartney Is not certain Just what
he will do when and if he arrives
In New York. He stayed In Chicago
during the 1936 fair for three
months. Ha was paid 100 a month
and given horse feed. He helped pay
his expenses by selling postcard pic
tures of himself and hU rig, which
was a made-over automobile body.
The McCartneys live in a nonde
script house, which Charlie built
himself. Using his goat teams, he
hauled lumber for the house ten
miles. He spurns tractors and horses
for his farm work, preferring to use
goat teams. He breaks them to drive
himself and also makes all their har
ness and his farm Implements.
McCartney describe the goats as
"the meanest things that ever was."
He Insists "you have to work them
to death." He once had 45 goats,
but the dogs reduced their number
to 18.
He wears his hair, aa well a his
beard, long. On rare occasions he cuts
it. Because of his eccentricities, Mc
Cartney has many visitors. He greets
them with hospitality, points to his
turnip, potato and pop corn crops
with pride.

After four days of controversy the
way apparently was cleared last night
for the appearance of Violinist Y
hudi Menuhln with the Los Angeles
Philharmonic orchestra today, al
though the young virtuoso stead
fastly refused to Join the musician's
guild.
Frank Chapman. Pacific coast rep
resentative of the American Guild
of Musical Arte, after a chat with
Menuhln said he would not ask the
orchestra to go out on strike be
cause such action would be break
ing faith with the public. It was
believed the matter would end there,
despite the AOMA decision In New
York that Its contract with the
Southern California Symphony as
sociation, which li sponsoring the
virtuoso's appearance, calls for all
performers to be guild members.
Menuhln said Chapman Impressed
him as being the "only gentleman"
with whom he had dealt in the con
troversy and that if there were more
such men as Capman In the Guild
he might reconsider his decision and
apply for membership.

from on 11th floor window of the
Hotel Abbey today.

Watson was widely known In the
