John Barry more' Has Political Comedy Role In, "Hold That Co-ed"
MEPFORP MATL TRFRTTKE, MEPFORD. OREGON. SUNDAY. OCTOBER 30. 1938.
HECTIC CAMPAIGN
The new American fashion in
medleine-ahow electioneering meth
ods comes tn for some uproarious
ribbing In the football comedy, "Hold
That Co-ed." which opens today at
the Crater lan theater, with John
Barrymore as a budget-bouncing, co-ed-ktaslng
governor, who parks his
bandwagon on the campus and pro
ceeds to make things hum.
Half satire, half farce, and all fun.
the picture proceeds merrily on the
theory that If circus tactics can win
votes fas they aeem to be doing
nowadays), then a winning college
football team could accomplish mlra
clea at the polls for any political
candidate clever enough to turn It
to his own personal glory.
John Barrymore la oast as t he
demagogic governor.
For romance, George Murphy and
Marjorie Weaver prove to be a per
sonable pair. Joan Davis plays the
world's only female fullback and she,
too, ha her romance, with none
other than pop-eyed Jack Haley.
For those who take their football
seriously, there are many exciting
gridiron sequences, In the sensational
manner. But the serious grid fans
axe expected to Join with' everyone
else In enjoying the hilarious man
ner in which Joan wins the big
game.
Five new awing hits highlight the
picture. These are, "All American .
Swing." "Hold That Co-ed." "Here
Am I doing It," "Heads High" and
'Llmpy Dlmp."

In "Man's Castle," without doubt
the most poignant and moving love

love born In sombre, poverty-ridden
surrounding and climbing above
those surroundings to soul -stirring
and eternal warmth.
The companion feature on today's
returned -by -popular-demand program
W "She Married Her Boss," the most
flippant picture since the walls of
Jericho fell in "It Happened One
Night" and starring the same glam
our girl, Claudette Colbert, also an
academy award winner. Melvyn
Douglas plays the boss, turned sour
on a recent marriage, but possessed
with a new love, that of his secre
tary, Miss Colbert. Other players in

Fellows.
Spencer Tracy, whose recent tri

sponsible, gruff but kind vagrant
who takes under hla wing a hungry,
homeless and helpless girl.
The two popular films of a few
years back are being revived as a
result of public demand the country
