Bridge Luncheon
Successful Event
of Thursday Last .
Autumn leaves, touched to bril
liant hues by early October frosts,
made an attractive setting for one
of the most successful social events
of the .season. The bridge luncheon
held on October 1ft at St. Mary's
Academy drew over one hundred fifty
guests who filled the spacious as-
eembly.and adjoining parlors. A plea.
lng program was provided by St.
Mary's School of Music. Members of
the faculty and high school student
body assisted with the luncheon.
The door prize was won by Mrs. B.
L. Hunter. Prizes at cards were
awarded to Mrs. A. P. Stennett, Mrs.
Jack Porter, Mrs. M. Schwartz, Mrs.
Fred Wells, Mrs. A. Wetterer.
The success of the event was du
to splendid cooperation and enthusi
asm manifested by the chairman, Mrs.
J. O. Boyle, by St. Mary's Alumni
president, Arlene Jensen Espey, and
the various executive committees.

Concert Qommittee
Meets Monday Eve
A meeting of membership commit
tee members of the newly formed
Southern Oregon Concert Association,
will be held Monday evening at 8 o'
clock In the Baldwin piano shoppe
studio.
Mrs. H. Chandler Egan, president
of the association, Is urging all com
mittee members to attend the meet
ing, and Invites others Interested to
take part. The membership drive will
be formally started next week, but a
number of committee workers have al
ready reported an enthusiastic re
sponse to the concert series.
Of particular Interest, In compari
son with former concert series of this
type, la the fact that all three at
tractions will be staged In the Holly
theatre, at a reduced scale of prices,
and all concert will be definitely
announced In advance.
The San Francisco Opera Ballet,
with two former MM ford girls, Janet
Reed and Zoe Del Lantls, will open
the series November 10.
A group of 8nn Pranclsco opera art
ists, headed by John Howell, baritone,
and Msry Monti, soprano, will ep
pear here January 17 In two small
operas, "Secret of Suranne," and
"Portrait of Manon."
The Monart Boys Choir, a company
of 30 boy singers from Vienna,
brought to this country by Arturo
Toeoanlnl, will be heard March 31.
State College Sets
Homecoming Date

eona State Commerce club.
Mr. Lincoln attended Cincinnati
university, where he was a member
of the PI Kappa Alpha fraternity.
He was graduated from the Arleona
State Teachers colloge and was a
member of the Geographic society.
The bridegroom's brother. Warner
Lincoln, came from San Dlrgo, Calif.,
to act as best man at the wedding.
The couple will make their home
In Eloy. Arls., where Mr. Lincoln Is
teaching school.

Memorial Union building will be

Masonic Dancing club committee
announces that the next dancing
party, of a series of six, will be
given Tuesday evening. November 1,
In the ballroom of the Masonic
Temple.
Dancing will be from 0:30 to 13:30
o'clock and a buffet supper will be

Calls On George Andrews
George Andrews, former Medford
resident who haa been studying sing
ing In New York, hopes to return
soon to his old home town to glv a
recital, It was stated In a letter re
ceived yesterday from Mrs. William
8. Gilmore of 713 West 4th street.
Mrs. Gilmore, who has been sight
seeing In New York, met Mr. An
drews recently when she was being
conducted through the NBC studios
In Radio City. Her guide took her
to see Mr. Andrews when he learned
Ahe was from Medford, she wrote to
the Mall Tribune. Mr. Andrews, a
baritone who cornea from a long line
of singers and musicians, Is employed
In the NBC library. He has broad

Dinner Party
Mr. and Mrs. Emll H. Mohr were
hosts Wednesday evening for a de
lightful dinner party at the Hotel
Medford. ;
Following dinner, the Mohrs took
their guests to the Chateau where
dancing was enjoyed for the remain
der of the evening.

Mr. Andrews haa been forging
ahead rapidly In his profession, Mrs.
Gilmore wrote, and his future ap
pears bright. He and his mother arc
well and remember Medford fondly,
she said. Both are looking forward
to their visit here, she added. They
sent greetings to their friends here.
Medford pears are now prominent
on the New York market, Mrs. Gil
more wrote. She noted several well
known Medford brands on the city's
retail stands, Boacs were selling at
three for a dime and Bartletts at
five for a dime, she stated.
Mrs. Andrews Host
At Bridge Luncheon
Mrs. C. H. Andrews was hostess
Friday afternoon for a very enjoyable
party at the Hotel Medford.
Twenty-five guests were present at
the luncheon and bridge affair. A
center table was attractively appoint
ed with a centerpiece fruit bowl and
orange candles. The autumn motif
was also carried out In the Individual
tables which were decornted with yel
low marigolds and matching bridge
tallya.
Mrs. Charles R. Gsll and Mrs. Dolph
Phtppa received prizes In the bridge
play.

Those Interested In compositions
of local composers will have the
qpportunlty of hearing several num
bers of Lucie Landen when the Ash
land Music club presents Its "Com
posers Evening." Monday evening at
8 o'clock.
Mlas Landen. faculty member of
the Southern Oregon Normal school,
has studied composition with Hunter
Johnson and Dr. Otto Stahl at the
University of Michigan where she
received her master's degree. She
also studied with Dr. Hugo Grimm
of the Cincinnati Conservatory, and
Bernard Wagenaar of the Jullliard
school In New York.
Miss Landen has appeared In per
formances In several states, having
been featured by the Chelan. Waah.,
Music club and Lauren Sykes, Port
land organist. She Is a member of
the Oregon Society of Composers and
the National Association of Ameri
can Composers and Conductors.
The event tomorrow evening will
be held In the Civic clubhouse In
Lithla park.

A group of Medford football fans
attended the Oregon rooks-Unlverslty
of Oregon frosh game In Klamath
Falls last evening and then were
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hart,
former Medford residents at a dinner
party at their home in Klamath Falls.
The party planned to return to this
city today.

ers Association held its Oct. meeting
in one of the new rooms at the
school on Friday Oct. 21.
Mrs. Albert Rolllnson. president,
presided over the business meeting,
then turned the meeting over to the
program chairman, Mrs. Ray Harrison
snd the two assisting teachers, Mr.
Murray and Miss Henderson. Miss
Carln Degermark gave a most inter
esting and educational discussion on
rsdlo program In the home. She also
described In detail Radio City in New
York where she spent the past two
months.
Miss Floy Young and a quintet from
the high school entertained. Those

Ross and Bill Taylor with Dorothy
Wilder at the piano. They sang "In
the Garden of Tomorrow" and "Blow

was enjoyed Wednesday evening at
the Knights of Pythias hall when
the birthday of A. J. Whlllock was

The group will visit here for several
weeks with A. J. whlllock who will

session and expressed the club's re
grets that Mrs. W. E. Crews, whose
attendance record has been perfect,
was unable to be present at the
meeting.
