FRENCH STUDYING
TROOP MOVEMENT
IN LARGE PLANES
By HAROLD ETTUVGER
trotted Preia Staff Correspondent
PARIS (UP) French aviation ex
perts are studying plans for using
the new series of giant seaplanes of
the Lieutenant Parla type, of which
Trance will soon have five, u troop
transports across the Mediterranean.
It is estimated that each of the
planes could carry 150 men In addi
ction to the crews. In event of naval
warfare In the Mediterranean, Which
would make troop transport by sea
unsafe, these planes could make
regular night flights and bring across
760 men nightly.
Besides the Lieutenant Paris, which
now Is x making a series of experi
mental flights over the North At
lantic southern route, via the Azores
and Bermuda to New York, tho
French already have two planes of
the same type. They belong to the
navy auxiliary air force.
A fourth Latecoere plane of the
same type Is neartng completion at
Blscarosse near Bordeaux, and a fifth
to under construction for Air France,
commercial airtransport line.
Experts figure that 150 men could
easily hi carried. They would make
a total weight, with equipment, of
about 15 tons. The Lieutenant Paris
weighs I814 tons empty and 37 tons
normally with a full load, although
one one of Its recent Atlantic flights
the ship took off easily carrying 41
tons. The weight of the men would
leave the plane well under capacity
nd still allow room for enough gaso
line for a flight across .the Mediter
ranean.
Only slight alterations to the In
ternal design of the ships would be
needed to carry 150 soldiers. They
have two decks, and 113 could easily
be carried comfortably on the lower
deck and 38 on the upper deck in
addition to the crew.
Their equipment would be Included
In the total weight and there would
be room for It either in the same
compartments as the men or In fore
and aft chambers.

WOMEN CALLED
TOLL CHEATERS
6T. LOTUS (UP) Women are bat
ter cheaters than man.
Take the word of James E. Planar
for that. He ought to know, for after
45 years of toll collecting on the busy
Eods bridge across the Mississippi
river, he's "learned all the tricks by
this time."
Fisher, who Is M and has Juet
retired regretfully suspects that "If
at the phony coins that have been
handed me were laid end to end
they would reach clear across At.
Louis."
Fisher can detect a false move by
men motorists, he says, for they usu
ally have a guilty gleam In their eye.
But he has to be more alert with
women.
"They have a tricky little habit
of wrapping the coin for an extra
fare In their pink toll ticket. After
they've gone and I've opened the
paper. I'm Just as likely to find a
piece of chewing gum or a rock."
It was difficult for Fisher to desert
a position which enabled him to en
Joy two types of travel which always
have Interested him.
"I watched the automobiles roll by
the bridge, and I looked down on
the steamboats below. There was i
candy factory near by and the smell
of fresh licorice was always In the air.
The sun was In my face, when there
wasn't too much soot, and altogether
I had a pretty good time. I sort of
hate to see It end."
Appetites Zipped
With Snow Flakes9
Tasty "Nibbles"
Not that folks' appetites need
perking up at ill what with foot
ball, holidays, and the ntpplneas of
the season In the air!
But It la a nice little prelude to
any meal even the simplest if a
plate of Intriguing little appetizers
appear along with the tray of chilled
tomato or pineapple Juice, or the
hot spiced grapejulce or fruit nectars.
They're never a bother If one has
on hand little Jars of spreads, all
made up, and In the refrigerator or
cooler. And a large box of those
crisp, crunchy golden brown squares
Snow Flake crackers t There's no
trimming of crusts and cutting Into
fancy shapes, no extra toasting, no
spreading with or browning In but
ter once you got the habit of using
Snow Flakes as the base for these
tempting bits.
I don't mind admitting I'm lazy
I set out a tray of spreads one
short and another along with but
ter -spro ad ers and a big bowl of
Snow Flake crackers and let each
one spread his own. It's a grand
Idea when Informality does or
should prevail, and especially good
for buffet meals.
But If you'd be a bit fancy, dress
your Snow Flake crackers In tempt
ing array and slip them In the re

SNOW FLAKES differ from ordinary crackers aa
vine-fresh tomatoes differ from those several days
old. And Snow Flakes' many little "extras" make
the difference.
FOR expert bakers make Snow Flakes with
extra shortening for txlra flakiness, just enough
salt for extra savor, and rush them to you extra
fast, triple-sealed, fresh from the oven.
FLAKINESS means everything in a cracker. Snow
Flakes are flakier, daintier, tastier, and crisper.
