made an offloe inspection at the
South Fork CCC camp thia morning.
New Residence Gerald T. Latham
applied at the city building inspec
tor's office yesterday for permit to
construct a new residence at 810 Park
avenue at a stated cost of 42000.
Due Back Monday Erie Gray,
deputy collector of V, S. internal
revenue, will be back in his office
at the Medford federal building Mon
day. He la spending this week trans
acting official business in the north.
Oelrells Here Mr. and Mrs. Thomas
Delsell, former local residents, arriv
ed here yesterday for s short stay in
Medford. Mr. Delzell Is now assist
ant to the state public utility com
missioner with headquarters in Salem.

On Vacation Fred W. Scheffel,
city superintendent, with Mrs. Schef
fel and son Jimmy, is enjoying a
two-weeks vacation in Boise and Ru
pert, Idaho, where relatives and
friends are being visited. The family
Is expected to return to Medford the
latter part of next week.

ness. He arrived by motorcar from
Klamath Falls and was to leave late
this afternoon for Portland.
Flying North Lieut. C. T. Stewart
stopped at Medford municipal airport
this morning to have his army Doug
las observation plane refueled. He
was en route from Hamilton fieid.
San Rafael. Cel., to Fort Lewis,
Wash,, on a routine flight.
Here on Soilness Jack LaRue of
Portland was a business visitor In
Medford yesterday. Mr. LaRue rep
resents an electrical manufacturing
company and was here on a periodic
visit to southern Oregon business
concerns.

Motor Stolen J. C. Cass of the
Cass auto wrecking yard, 1113 South
Riverside avenue, reported to city
police yesterday that a -horsepower
motor was stolen from the yard re
cently. He was unable to set the
exact date of the theft, police said.
Town send Meeting Regular meet
ing of Townsend club No. 2 will be
hed tonight at 8 in Townsend hall,
13314 West Main street. D. D. Davis
will be the speaker, after which a
program of vocal and Instrumental
numbers will be heard. Refresh
ments will be served.
In Portland Frank Rogers, city
building and light superintendent,
left last night for Portland where he
will confer with PWA officials re
garding plans and specifications for
Medford program for the recon
struction of paved streets. He Is
expected to return tomorrow morn
ing.

mother of Mrs. S. N. Zidridge of 424
South Grape street and Mrs. Ed
Beckelhymer of Union Creek, was
reported today as being ill In the
Good Samaritan hospital in Port
land. It was understood that Mrs,
Eifert fell and broke her arm. Mr.
and Mrs. Eldridge left this morning
for Portland to be with Mrs. Eifert.

mer resident who spent the past few
days duck hunting in the Klamath
lake country with W. H. Pluhrer, left
Medford municipal airport this morn
ing to return to his post at Long
Beach, Cal., where he is an instructor
of student pilots for the marine
corps. He was flying a rtsvy Gruman
scout observation plane.

nounced today by Earl H. York, chef
de Rare. Capt. Ernest J. Brugger.

made today of the V. 8. army enlist
ment of Raymond L. Proctor, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford C, Proctor of
51 i Haven street. He passed his
final qualifying examination In Port
land and was formally sworn into
service October 18, selecting as his
assignment the 7th Infantry at Van
couver Barracks, Wash. He had been
tentatively accepted for enlistment by
Sgt. Willis 8. Estep at the army re

To View Process Southern Ore
gon Gem and Mineral society will
convene on November S at the resi
dence of its president, 1. R. Santo,
to view the process of cutting and
polishing agates. The society wiH
meet first at 7:30 at the Jackson
County Chamber of Commerce for a
brief semi-monthly business session.
This was decided at last night's regu
lar meeting. It was announced last
night that henceforth Dr. R. C. Vaa
Vairah will be general chairman In
charge of programs. Dr. VanValzsh
is to appoint a member at each meet
ing to prepare a program for, the
following session. The society also
voted last night to take part in the
American Legion Armistice Day pa
rade. A float will be entered in the
procession. Mrs. WHUara McClure
and Roy Cameron were appointed to
make arrangements for participation
in the parade.

Mayor LaGuardia of New York City
indicated after a conference with
President Roosevelt today he would
withhold his support of Sew York's
Gov. Herbert H. Lehman for re -election
unless the governor stated In the
campaign he was firmly behind the
New Deal,
Talking with reporters after the
conference, the stocky mayor criti
cized Lehman for avoiding a direct
reply to reporters questions whether
he would stress and support the lift-
tional administration during the
state campaign.
Lehmsn should have answered the
questions you boys put to him 'here
the other day after he visited the
president, he said. v
Lehman, Democratic candidate for
a fourth term at Albany, has re
ceived the endorsement of the Amer
ican labor party In which LaOuardia
Is si prominent figure and active
member-
LaGuardia said he discussed poli
tics and public housing at the tem
porary White House.
Asked whether he would support
Lehman, he replied:
"I'm going to endorse the sena
torial and congressional candidates
who can be depended on to support
the federal administration.

they are prepared to reopen their
plant "as soon as we can be assured
