Fire destroyed a barn on the Char
lea Dugan farm In Sams Valley Fri
day afternoon. Two horses perished
In the fire. It was reported here. I
Most of 76 tons of hay In the. barn
was saved by a state forest crew
which rushed to the blaze from here
with a pumper. The pumper was
still on the Job yesterday afternoon,
it being difficult to extinguish the
smoldering hay completely, head
quarters here said.
Oscar E. Wages, livestock foreman
on the farm, was arrested at m North
Pacific highway resort for being
drunk while he assertedly wss en
route to Medford to procure addi
tional help to fight the fire.. He
pleaded guilty to the charge In jus
tice of the peaoe court yesterday and
was fined 910 and M.50 costs.

New schedules on United Air Lines
went into effect here yesterday. The
changes speeded up the west coast
service.
The new schedule follows: .
Southbound Trip 14 departs frorn
Medford municipal airport at 1:30
p. m.; trip 6 departs at 11:39 p. ra.
Northbound Trip S departs at
4:39 a. m.; trip 1 departs at 3:48
p. m.
The northbound planes remain In
port ten minutes, the southbound S
minutes. Airmail closes at the central
postofflce 46 minutes before plane
departure time.

Mrs. Helen A. Stearns
Helen Alma Stearns widow of the
late Howard R. Stearns, who died
In 1933, passed away at her home
early this morning. Death was due
to , a stroke suffered about six
months ago. ' ' ' '
Mrs. Stearns was bom it Water
town, N. T., and had resided st
Medford for the last 30 years, where
she leaves many friends. She was
a member of the Methodist Episco
pal church at Wena tehee, Wash.
Two children survive. Herbert Chee-
ence Barnum of Klamath Fulls. Fu-
ver of Wenatchee, Wash., and Florence
Barnum of Klamath Falls. Funeral
services wilt be held at the Conger
chapel at 9:00 p. m. Tuesday with
the Rev. D. E. Millard officiating.
Interment will be In the Siskiyou
memorial park.

Myrna Verlene Rosembalm, infant
daughter of Mr. snd Mrs. William
