Bride of Mr. Gilman
At Impressive Rites
One of tfte moat elaborate weddings
ever Held In Med ford took place Sat
urday evening at 8 o'clock at the
Methodist Episcopal church when
Miss. Leila Van Dermark, eldest
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Van
Dermark became the bride of Lester
Oilman, eon of Mr. and Mrs. Oeorge
Oilman. The Rev. Thomas H. Temple
officiated.
The couple took their vows at an
altar beautifully decorated with an
abundance of white gladiolus. Mrs.
Henry Huenergardt presided at the
organ, and played Lohengrin's Wed
ding March. Miss Mary Anne Dates
rendered "At Dawning."
The bride, given in marriage by
her father, waa lovely In a white aatln
princess style gown with sheared
bodice, she wore long white gloves
and a full length veil fastened with a
wreath of orange blossoms. Her bri
dal bouquet was of bride's roses and
Lilies of the Valley.
Mrs. Arthur Brown wss her sister's
matron of honor. She wore a tur
quoise satin gown and carried a bou
quet of pale pink Briar Cliff roses, a
coronet of the matching flowers en'
circled her head.
Bridesmaids were Miss Dorothy
Van Dermark, the brlde'a sister and
her cousin, Miss Linda Wright. The
former was gowned in Burgundy
moire and Mlsa Wright wore gold
moire. Their dresses were fashioned
In princess style and they carried arm
bouquets of delphinium and bronze
chrysanthemum.
Little Mlas Donna Sherwood acted
as flower girl and wss pretty In a
dress of rose moire.
Roy Love acted as best man for
Mr. Oilman and ushers lncludod the
bridegroom's brother, Lewis Oilman,
Arthur Cook, Tommy White and Ray
Hawk.
Mrs. Van Dermark, the brlde'i
mother wss gowned In figured ehlf'
ton, blue predominating and wore a
corsage of gardenias. Mrs. Oilman,
the bridegroom's mother wore a rust
crepe dress snd a gardenia corsage.
Upon leaving the church each
guest waa presented with a wrapped
piece ox weaoing cake.
Pour hundred guests were bidden
to the Impressive wedding.
Following the ceremony a reception
wss held at the home of the brlde'a
parents on West 11th street, sixty
guests were present. The bride, ac
cording to tradition, out the first
piece of the large weddlna- oake.
Assisting at the reception were the
aunts of the bride: Mrs. W. o. Wright
mm. u. as. uavis, Mrs. J. T. McKIn
ney. and Mrs. N. L. Hawk. Rooms
wore attractively decorated In fall
ziowera.
After the reception, the newly wed-

For her golng-away ensemble, the
orme wore a blege silk suit with teal
blue accessories and an orchid cor
sage. Mrs. Oilman la a graduate of Med
ford high school and Oood Samaritan
hospital In Portland. She also at
tended University of Washington In
Seattle.
Mr. oilman haa lived In Medford
all of his life and Is a graduate of
Medford high school. He Is associ
ated with Oilman Dairy here. The
couple are both well known and
popular members of the younger set
In this city.

The Wednesday mudy club met In
regular session for the first Urns this

October 9, with Mrs. A. J. Hsnby pre
siding. Mrs. J. H. Cochran reviewed "Across
the Frontiers" by sir Philip Olbbs,
and Mrs. R. w. Webster "Political
Guide" by Dorothy Thompson. Both
books are of recent publication and

Th Medford Garden club held a
very Interesting meeting Thursday
afternoon at the home of Mlsa Helen
Bullls. The day was perfect and all
enjoyed Mlas Bullls garden and the
visit to the grounds of Mr. James
Owen where some very unusual trees
and shrubs were seen. .
Mrs. J. W. Jacobs waa elected, presi
dent to succeed Mrs. Glpson Driver
who recently resigned and Mra. C. L.
Goff waa elected historian to take
the place left vacant by Mrs.. Jacobs.
Jane Snedlcor spoke on flower ar
rangements In tall vases, giving
points to be considered In selecting
container and flowers ao that each
will compliment the other. Balance,
harmony and rhythm of the finished
composition were discussed. For the
November meeting arrangements
based, on the Japanese principles of
arrangements will be featured.
Mrs. O. Arnsplger gave a very In
teresting talk on the propagation of
shrubs, suggesting the method of
layering to be the most satisfactory
for amateurs.
Mrs. L. G. Gentncr gave a Very
comprehensive talk on narcissus, giv
ing the names of the newer and most
desirable ones. Mrs. John Boyle and
Mrs. Ralph Jennings .received the
door prises while Mrs. J. C. Semon
and Mrs. C. L. Goff had highest
scores In the deciduous tree and
shrub contest.
A. beautiful pottery vase has been
purchased by the club to be used In
the membership contest. This time
It was awarded to Miss Helen Bullls
for securing the most new members
during the past month.
The new president. Mrs. Jacobs will
call an executive board meeting some
ume curing this week, alter which
committees for the year will be an

The Lady Lions met on Wednes
day at the home of Mrs. W. P. Brooks
on West Main street for a covered
dish luncheon after which a business
meeting was conducted by Mrs. Earl
Miller, president.
