entertainment with the already ar
ranged auction sale which will take
place Friday night, Sept. 23, The

day to Improve conditions In the
hall for that night, and will appre
ciate any member's help for thftt
day.
It la hoped everyone will keep the
auction sale In mind, when you will
be able to buy anything from the
line of products to fancy work and
cooked foods. A substantial prize is
offered the donor of the article or
product bringing the highest price.
Eagle Point grangers announced a
home-coming meeting for Tueaday

A congregational meeting was held

services Sunday, at which time it was
voted unanimously to aak Rev, E. N.
Mallery to serve the church for an
other year aa stated aupply. There

school compared to 83 a year gao.
The young people's orchestra under
direction of Reverend' Mallery playa
during both the Sunday school and
church services. The church people
are very proud of their young people's
choir, which had 18 voices In It last
Sunday. This la directed by Mrs. Roy
Martin and has special muslo every
Sunday. A cordial Invitation la ex
tended to all to attend the services.
Eighteen membera of the C. E. so
ciety motored to Phoenix Sunday eve
ning to attend a meeting at that
place with the Phoenix group, at
which ttme they were addressed by
Mtsa Mary Moore, Pacific coast sec
retary of the Presbyterian church.
On September 16, Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Whitney took dinner at home
of Mra. Oladys Crow at Copper and
also called on Jake Knutsen, who
suffered a paralytic atroke on Sep
tember 11.
The missionary society will meet at
3 p. m. at the church on Thursday,
September 33, at which tlmo Mrs.
McParland of Phoenix will- tell about
her trip to the general assembly laat
spring. All Interested ladlea are In
vited to attend. Refreshments will be

nied by Alma Ayers, and Phoebe Fer
guson of Medford motored to Grants
Pass last aturday, where they visited
the Josephine county fair.
Mr. and Mrs. William Carlon and
Infant son of Portlsnd arrived Thurs
day at home of Mra. Carlon's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Win Arnold, for a visit.
They came by airplane. Mr. Carlon
proceeded to Detroit, Mich., where he
will get two cars which he will drive
back here.
Lloyd Whitney came home from
Community hospital laat Friday eve
ning, where he had spent a week
undergoing treatment. Previous to
that, he had spent 13 days In Treka
hospital following an Injury received
while fighting forest fire near Treka
earlier In the summer.
Mrs. Fred Butcher and her uncle,
Charles Crumley, left by auto Sep
tember 13 for a visit with relatives
In Washington. They expected to be
gone a week or 10 days.
September 16 seemed to be a time
for surprises, as that evening there
were two such parties, one being on
Mr. and Mrs. Oeorge Wendt in honor
of their fifteenth wedding anniver
sary. The 13 guests present were Mr.
and Mrs. Chester Wendt and two chil
dren, Phyllla and Warren: Mr. and
Mr. Vivian Wilson: Mr. and Mrs. Jim
Issott and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Key-
ser of Medford: also Mrs. Charles
Adams and Mra. Odelle West ot Med
ford, and Mrs. Mary Wilson. Gifts
or crystal and refreahments were
brought by the guests.
The second surprise was given by
the Senior C. . In honor of Gage
Sanden, who was home on a 10-day
furlough from the Dnlted States navy
at San Diego. About 36 young friends
with Reverend Mallery and Mrs. R.
Martin enjoyed the evening at the
roller akatlng rink In Medford, after
which all drove to Preacott memorial
park on Roxj Ann. where a fear', of
watermelons wss enjoyed.

of the choir and orchestra when, ifter
tneir regular practice, Rev. and Mrs.
Mallery served them with lee cream
and cookies.
Miss Besulah Andrews of Medford
wss a guest of Shirley Cantrall two
day laat week. While riding a bi
cycle after dark on Wednesday eve
ning down the old schoolhouse road,
which had been closed to motor traf
fic, Miss Andrews, not knowing the
road had been closed, ran Into one
of the posts. The Impsct threw her
violently and caused severe Injuries
to one root, which laid her up for
several days.
Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Florey of San
Francisco have moved to Medford.

The local Orange has announced aa
auction sale and fall "booster" meet
ing for Friday evening. September
33 at the Orange hall. The auction
will Include fancy' work, cooked
food, frulta and vegetables, dressed
chickens, etc. In fact, anything
which the membera have to donate,
and proceeds will be used to help
complete the hall. A frea program
and supper will complete the eve
ning and the public la cordially In
vlted to attend. An excellent pro
gram Is being prepared by the ways
and meana committee. Supper will
conalst of sandwiches, pickles, cake
and coffee. Orange ladles are asked
to bring cake. The other items will
be furnished by the home economics
committee. Members are urged to In
vite their friends and neighbors to
this meeting as guests of the grange.
Work Is being rushed on the hall
this week, In order to have It ready
for a large crowd.
Several local hunters have left for
their favorite hunting. places already
In hopes ot having "better luck this
year."

Miss Mildred Duggan left last
week for Drewsey, Oregon, where
she will teach In the Drewsey schools
this year.

Mr. and Mra. Clarence Holmes
have returned to Talent after spend-'
lng the summer at Holland. Ore.,
where he was employed.
Leah Bradley a former high school
teacher here, visited friends last
Thursday. She will teach again at
Carlton, where she taught last year.
The student body of the high
school held election of officers Fri
day and the following were elected
to fill offices for ths year: Earl Vet
ter, prealdent; Anabcll Rlggs, secre-tary-treaaurer.
The high school boya
have started football practice, and
will play some games with other
schools soon. '

Monday eve at the city hall where
the coming years budget was ar
ranged. The P.-T. A. will hold their first
meeting for the coming year Friday.
