Craterian Picture
Delights Audience
There was a capacity crowd at the
Craterian theatre last night that
overflowed to the sidewalks. The
reason? 8hlrley Temple's new picture.
"Little Miss Broadway." which open
ed Its four day showing yesterday.
For a long time, Shirley Temple
fans (and their number If legion)
have been divided In their opinions
as to which picture that she has
made in her meteoric career was the
outstanding one. They can stop all
arguments right now. "Little Miss
Broadway" so far outclasses anything
this screen's "number one" charmer
has ever made that It stands In a
class bl Itself. Even "Little Miss Mark
er," which seems to have had the
edge In most of the arguments In
the past, can take a back seat when
"Little Miss Broadway" Is brought
Into the discussion.
Judging from the reactions of
those who had the pleasure of seeing
class by Itself. Even "Little Miss Mark
way" Is going to set some records
not only in Medford, but wherever it
plays. For here is a picture that not
only has Shirley at her best, but a
picture that would still be great en
tertainment without the little queen
of the screen. But. don't mistake us:
without Shirley, It would be swell
entertainment: with her topping the
cast, that's something else again. And
"Little Miss Broadway" becomes one
of those rare "must see" pictures
that soon become the talk of the
town.
First of all, there's a grand story
that Shirley fits into like a glove.
About Broadway showfolk and adven-
I tures and romances. Then too, there's
a cast that's really something to
write home about. For Instance
George Murphy with whom Shirley
dances a Fred Astolre-Glnger Rogers
routine that's a sweetheart Edna
Mae Oliver as a orochety old lady;
Phyllis Brooks as the nice young lady
who wins the nice young man; Jim
my Durante, George Barbler, Edward
Ellis. Jane Darwell, El Brendel. Don
ald Meek and ao many other famous
luminaries that we can't remember
them all. It's a grand show, make no
j uiioioMj huuuv urn i wen worm any-
uiib a nine, ana a sname u you raise
seeing It. And there's a new Donald
Duck cartoon on the same program
that Just makes everything perfect.

REIGN OVER HOUSE
RULES COMMITTEE
STAKE IN BATTLE
Administration Control of
Strategic Group Behind
Roosevelt Fight Against
O'Connor of New York
By JOHN M. H1GHTOWER
WASHINGTON. Aug, 18 .flV-Ad
ministration control of the strategic
house rules committee It at stake In
President Roosevelt's fight to unseat
Rep. John O'Connor of New York.
If O Connor Is renominated and re
elected, domination of this commit
tee which determines the legislation
to come before the house may pass
into the hands of anti-administration
congressmen.
O'Connor Chairman
O'Connor is chairman. Nine other
Democrats and four Republicans are
members. Four of the Democrats
Sabbath of Illinois. Greenwood of In
diana, Harlan of Ohio and Lewis of
Colorado are generally considered
Roosevelt supporters.
Four others Cox of Oeorgla. Smith
of Virginia. Clark of North Carolina
and Dies of Texas bucked the pres
ident on the wage-hour bill. Some of
them also have opposed various other
administration measures.
The other Democratic member.
Driver of Arkansas, already has been
eliminated from the picture. He loct
his race for renom! nation to E. O.
Gathlngs, after a campaign which
politicians here said was lacking In
Issues of national Importance.
Other Demos In
Driver opposed the wage-hour bill.
Assuming the number of Democratic
committeemen remains the same In
the next session, his defeat will give
the administration leadership In t4ie
house an opportunity to put a new
deal supporter Into his place.
All other Democratic committee
men have won their primary cam
paigns except O'Connor, Cox and Lew
Is, who are yet te come up for nom
ination. Cox Is opposed In the Geor
gia primary by W. J. Crowe, an avow
ed new dealer.
If all the Democratic members
aside from Driver are renominated
and elected, the balance of power on
some Issues might lie with the four
Republican committeemen.
Such a situation would place the
White House In a highly disadvantag
eous position for pushing legislation
through congress.
