Comfort Ideas For
A Motor Vacation
Going on a motor vacation If so,
why not equip your car with acces
sories that will give you greater saf
ety, comfort and economy on your
trip, suggests C. H. Pritchett, local
manager of the Western Auto Supply
company on South Riverside avenus.
, "The part that accessories play In
safe, oomiortaoie driving is oiten
tlmes overlooked by the motorist
who make careful plans for ths en
joyment of every ottier port of nls
vacation trip," Pritchett states, "for
owners of new and old cars sllke
find that the driving can be made as
pleasant as the stopping If their car
la properly equipped."
"Accessories that can be classed as
as Important safety aids Include tires,
brakes, and llhta, although there are
many other articles which play their
part, uU as the battery, horn and
bumper guarda.
"In view of ths mounting number
of trafflo accidents In 1938, ths pros
pective vacationist should have his
mechanto carefully check his brakes,
and follow the lead of many Western
Auto customers who replace old lin
ings with our supreme quality lining
slong before the old has completely
worn out. But good brakes are of lit
tle value, If Urea do not have suffi
cient tread to afford positive trac
tion to prevent skidding on all kinds
of roadways, so be sure your tires are
safe before starting your trip. If you
have new Western Giant Silent Grips
on your car, youll get road gripping
traction and extra, tire miles for a
smaller Inveatment.
"The place of bumper guards,
lights and ths horn In the Interest
of aafsty Is esslly understood, as is
ths battery, when you realise that it
must furnish instant power to start
the engine, toot U'.e horn or light
the highway.
"But comfort Is also an Important
end that Is served by scceasortut.
Best covers make driving mora com
fortable as well as lengthening the
life of the upholstery. A Motorola
oar radio win entertain you wnllt
driving or topping."
GRANGERS ENJOY
AT
In an appropriate rural setting of
green lawn stretching under the
shade of alders at Jackson Hot
Springs a good representation of
Jaokson county's prosperous farmers
and their families gathered Sunday,
July 31, in the name of the Pomona
grange for their annual plcnlo aud
aporte program. Every year Pomona
aeleota the last Sunday In July as ths
day for their plonlo and temporary
release from the many obligations
which are to be met tn making their
organisation a success.
The entire table accommodations
on the grounda were utilised In serv
ing the gas people who attended, and
the basket lunches brought by the
grangers were of such excellence thst
even a watermelon Insecurely hidden
underneath a lumber pile failed to
draw attention.
Mrs, Oilve Floyd, Pomona lecturer,
was chairman of the committee ar
ranging for the day's events in whloh
the grangers frolicked on the lawn
In numerous contests remindful of
younger days down on the farm.
Other commltt members were Mr.
and Mrs. Henry Conger, Mr. and Mrs.
Cliff Maust, Horry Wlegant, and Jesse
Fish.
Prises Awarded
Upper Applegate grange won the

program resented in a recent contest
for balanced rograma. 81 other
granges entering end reoelvlng re

ville, Oold Hill, Live Oak, Central
Point, Talent, and Upper Rogue.
Judge and Mrs. O. B. Lamkln of
Bellvlew received an award for having
been married longer than any couple
present, 51 years. "Believe It or not,
It can be done," said Bill Brltton of
Bellvlew, who was contest announoer.
Mr. Lamkln Is former mayor ot Ash.
land and ex-county Judge.

Women Drive Nails
Sixteen women entered the nail
driving contest, with Mrs. Earl Bost-

Even though she dropped a nail, she
was able to retrieve it before it
reached the ground without mlaalng
a hammer stroke. Emmett Naalon
assisted from the rooting section, and
Henry Conger gave aid by telling the
ladles after the contest was over how
to hold their hammers. Mrs. A. 8.
Brockway was unable to enter, being
engaged most of the day In collecting
a twenty cent debt.
Something simitar to the melody of
a yodel occurred when several Iodise
lifted their voices to the south heav
ens In a hog calling contest, whloh
was won by Mrs. Nella Ridings of
Applegate grange. "Orlfflnella," the
partnership pig In the Griffin creek
grange, heard her name called over
the miles, no doubt. Jesse Pish, Oold
Hill baritone, outdlstanoed ths men's
voices In t calling contest. Develop
ing much gracefulness, Earl Bostwlck
and Win Arnold of Jacksonville led
In three legged race, and Mr. Bost
wlck also .displayed much prepared
ness when be won a pi eating con

opponents that their faces were
smeared.
