Oak Drove 4-H club l-aa been very
busy with projeots this summer. The
livestock club Is working with several
projects. Birl Saltmarsh and Bobby
Barbae were appointed to make a
model trapnf.it, while Carl Rleck and
Melvln Lltta worked vigorously on a
model plghouse. Earl Saltmarsh and
Lee Campbell were welcomed home
after a very enjoyable week at sum
mer oamp.
First canning club to organize In
the caunty this year Is the "Willing
Workers" of Oak Orove under the
leadership of Bertie Parltii. Flrat
meeting was held July 18. Officers
were elected aa follows: Joanne Den
nee, president: Betty Lou Rleeh, vice
president; Janice Pitts, secretary;
Marie Logan, recreation leader. Vlr
glnla Allen Is also a member.
After the business mealing the first
lesson was given on canning. Each
girl canned a pint of berries. The
second meeting waa held July 38. It
was spent In discussing the reaaon of
spoilage -of canned fruit. It was de
cided that the next meeting waa to
be held at the homo of Marie Logan,
on Monday, August 1.

Orange, a plcnlo was announced for
August 10 at the home of Walter
Oermer on the highway south of
Phoenix for members and their fam
ilies. Each group to bring their own
table service and woU filled baskets.
Meat and bread and butter will be
provided.

regular meeting. August 9. Is Floyd
Bell, Ray Ward, Elvln Inman, Bill
Perns and Prank Denner.
The lecturer announced that the
program would be under direction of
the young men of the grange, under
40 years of age, with Vaughn Quack

bert Parman, 38, Rosevllle, Calif.,
Hunted since July 10 on murder
charges aa a result of the slaying of
George McElroy, 20, Placer Junior
college athlete.
McElroy was shot down on a Rise
villa street by a man he had taken
to task tor making unwanted ad
vances toward Margaret Brusso, 31,
McElroy 's slBter-ln-law. McElfloy's
wife, Ruth, IB, told officers Parman
was the man with whom McElroy
had clashed, and Chief of Poltoe Rus
sell Carter of Rosevllle swore to a
murder complaint against Parman.
State highway patrolmen, testing
automobiles for defective headlights,
chanced upon Parman last nlht.
Parman hss an uncle and other
relatives In the At : land district. A
watch was kept by local authorities
on the theory Parman might return
to this section.
Parman last September, was sen
tenced to serve 00 days In the county
Jail, on a charge of carrying a con
cealed weapon. He was released last
November. Parman was arrested at
Ashland for questioning at that time
and the charge was filed when a gun
waa found In tils possession.
