Portland offlco this morning on the
train to spend the day transacting
business here. He was en route to
Klamath' Palls.

Varation Ends County Assessor J.
B. and Mrs. Coleman have returned
home from a three weeks' vacation
motor trip. Their Itinerary Included
Yellowstone and other national parks.
The' vacation was especially enjoyable
because cool and refreshing weather
prevailed during most of the trip.

From Portland Two railroad com
pany employes arrived In Medford
this morning on the train from the
north. They are George Thomas,
trsveling. freight and passenger agent
for Milwaukee railroad company, and
Jack McLaughlin, traveling freight
agent for the Illinois Central Rail
road company. They are from Port
land and are registered at Medford
hotel.
Family Picnic Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Campbell and daughter of Perry dale
spent Sunday In Grants Pass where
they enjoyed a picnic In the Grants
Pass park.
To Fight Fire Fifty additional men
were sent from here last night to
fight a spot fire oh the Siskiyou
national forest. All fires on the
Rogue River national forest and state
forests In Jackson and Joseph! n;
counties were reported out today,
though a couple of the burned areas
were being patroled.
Rinanls Speaker H. C. Obye, as
sistant supervisor of the Rogue River
national forest, wilt be the principal
speaker at tomorrow's weekly luncheon-meeting
of the Klwanls club in
the Hotel Medford st 12:15. Mr. Obyr,
a member of the club, will tell of the
work of t he Unl ted Sta tea forest
service in fighting the recent forest
fires In southern Oregon and north
ern California.
From Seattle Mrs. W. H. Horner
and son. W. K. Horner, of Seattle
arrived In Medford yesterday to be
with Mr. Horner, who underwent an
operation in Sacred Heart hospital
yesterday for the removal of his
appendix. He was reported by at
tendants today to be recovering sat
isfactorily. Mr. Horner Is one of the
owners of the B-H Mining company.
Minor Accident A trurk driven by
Charles. R. Thompson of 331 Marie
street struck a parked car owned by
P. E. Samson of 220 North Riverside
avenue yesterday afternoon In front
of the latter address, a city police
report stated today. The accident
occurred when Thompson, backing
his vehicle out of a garage, failed to
cramp the wheels enough to avoid
striking the parked auto, the report
said. Minor damnge was done.
Enlht In Army Announcement was
made today of the United States
army enlistment of William R. Bow
man, son of Mr. and Mrs. Homer
Bowman of Route 2, and Conley C.
Rhoten, son of C. H. Rhoten of Cen
tral Point. Both you t lis were accepted
tentatively for enlistment by Sgt
Willis S. Estep. recruiter in charge
of the station In Medford city hall.
They passed their final qualifying
examinations at Vancouver Barracks.

sworn Into service. Both boys chose
to serve with the engineers at the
Hawaiian Islands and will mtt for
their stations on the next outgoing
army transport.
