ACCIDENTS CAUSE
NEW YORK, July 80. (AP)
Sixty-seven percent of the 16,400
pedestrians killed In motor car ac
cidents In the United States last
year were victims of their own care
lessness, the greater New York safe
ty counoll said today.
A survey also showed, the coun
cil said, that 69 percent of the
335.000 pedestrians Injured In non
fatal traffic mishaps during the year
were violating safety laws.
The council estimated the na
tion's 1937 motor vehicle death toll
at 39,600.

the state land board, from July I,
1938, to July 1, 1937, resulting from
the sale of foreclosed lands, aggre
gated S35.189.17, Lewis Griffith, clerk
of the board, reported to Stats
Treasurer Rufus O, Holman today.
Holman made It plain that these
losses resulted from the operations
of previous land boards.
During the period July I, 1937,
to July 1, 1938, the land board
showed s profit of 88900.
Loans on s large number of these
foreclosed tracts were made many
yeara ago.
