DURING PRESENT WEEK

4a sales Increased 3 to 6 per cent In
leading retail centers this week over
the previous week, Dun At Bradstreet
reported today.
Wholesale buying, with the fall
buying peak apparently yet to be
reached, was estimated at s to la per
oent under last year's comparative
figure.
This, the report noted, reflected
continued improvement over the first
quarter of Oils year when volume ran
25 to 40 per oent under the compar
able 1037 pace.
Resumption of consumer buying,
hampered last week by prolonged
rains In many section! , gave Impetus
to the retail gains which were only
4 to 13 per cent less than the 1037
comparative.
"Many merchants recorded the
largest sales this summer,' the re
port said. "Lightweight apparel for
men and women, luggage, sports
equipment, traveling accessories and
vacation necessities continued to pro
vide the bulk of the volume
con tr a -seasonal rise In grocery sales
was strong."

SLAYING, SUICIDE
OAKLAND. Cal., July 20. (UP)
Eleven children were orphaned today
by deaths, apparently tfie result of a
slaying and a suicide, of Edward
Neves, 42, and his estranged wife,
Carrie, 42, on a lonely road near here.
Mri. Neves had recently filed a di
vorce action against her husband.
Police found marks of a violent
struggle near the bodies. Mrs. Neves'
body waa lying face down, ehot twice
through the torso. Neves' body lay
acroas hers and a pistol lay beside
the two. Toelr automobile was 40 Veet
away.
Deputy Sheriff Tom BUva said
Neves liad telephoned him this morn
ing to learn whether It was necessary
for him to appear In court and ans
wer the divorce complaint. When ail
va told him he believed It was, Neves
appeared depressed over the matter.

Lake highway opposite Rogue River
lodge near Trail. The place Is owned
and operated by Mr. and Mrs. Ralph
Watson and their two sons, Carroll
and Gordon, occupants of the prop
erty for the past six years.
Treasure Cabin features novelties
And cut stones, the opals being ob
tained from a mine owned by Mr.
and Mrs. Watson In Nevada. Situated
In the picturesque setting, Treasure
Cabin will be enlarged next year and
the business expanded to Include
home-made candy and pastry, tho
owners said.
Minnie King Crisler
Passes In Klamath
KLAMATH FALLS, July 30. (AP)
Minnie King Crisler, 09, a native
of Benton county and for 40 years
a resident of Klamath county, died
today.
She was the widow of C. B. Cris
ler. one of the founders of the
Bwauna Box company, largest saw
mill within Klamath Falls, and a
former president of the First Na
tional Bank here.
Burial will take place Saturday
afternoon at Ashland. A daughter
and sister survive.
