To Test Timber Theodore Knchln
and Eric Anderson, members of the
staff of the Pacific northwest forest
experimental station In Portland, to
day went to the white pine stand
In the Rogue River national forest
above Union Creek to procure timber
samples. They were accompanied by
H. C. Obye, assistant supervisor. The
white pine samples will be sent to
the forest products laboratory at
Madison, Wis., to determine whether
lumber made from white plno In this
locality Is as good as that made from
the white pine of Idaho, considered
the country's best. The white pine
from here will be tested particularly
for Its texture and specific gravity,
headquarters stated.

stamps were on sale today at the
Medford postofflce. One was a four
cent stamp bearing the likeness of
James Madison. The other was a
three-cent stamp commemorating the
tercentenary anniversary of the first j
colony of Swedish and Finnish set-1

the stamp Is a reproduction of a j
painting by Stanley M. Arthurs, de-i
plctlng the landing of the colonists!

self. Boy Scout Hurt George Bryant,
14, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry O.
Bryant of 1313 Reddy avenue, was
brought to Community hospital last
night for treatment of head Injuries
sustained when he slipped In the
snow on the side of Mt. Pitt yester
day afternoon while on a trail hike
with other Boy Scouts from the sum
mer camp at Lake of the Woods.
Attending physician said today the
youth was not seriously Injured. One
eye was black and blue and he suf
fered lacerations of the head, the
doctor stated. George was carried
to the scout camp on a stretcher
and brought to Medford by Tom Em
mons, scout camp medical advisor.

ager, today Issued a call to the drill
team of Crater Lake aerie, Fraternal
Order of Eagles, to assemble In uni
form at the Medford armory at 6:16
tomorrow evening to take part In the
Moose convention parade at 6:30.
Mr. Peck asked that all members
report punctually at 6:16. A letter
received by Mr. Peck today fvom the
Portland aerie highly prased Med
ford's drill team. The Portland team
won first place In drill competition
at the recent state convention in
Klamath Palls but the letter from
the upstate lodge confessed ''bat the
winner was hard pressed by the Med
ford contestants. "The Medford team
offered us the stlffest competition
we have encountered slnco 1931,"
the letter from the Portland aerie
said.
