Parts of Old Routes
With an allotment of $35,000, work
wltl be started early next week on
.the Dead Indian road and the road
from Klamath Falla to Lake of the
Woods. Rogue River ' national forest
headquarters announced today.
A workers camp was being estab
lished today at Lake of the Woods
and between 35 and 40 men will be
employed all summer " on the dual
project, headquarters stated. The
work will be done under the super
vision of W. I. Jones, forest construc
tion superintendent. All of the men
needed for the work have already
been employed, headquarters empha
sized. Both roads lead to Lake of the
Woods and the work will be started
at the lake, equal work being done
on the roads from the lake, forest
headquarters aald. Most of the routes
will be new and through timbered
land in accordance with a U. 8. bu
reau of public roads surrey.
When the work Is completed the
roads will be 16 feet wide with a
nine-foot surface. With the present
scale of cash allotments, however, It
will require several years to complete
the roads. This year's fund will permit
work up to about November 1, forest
headquarters stated. Although the
fund la viewed as small for this type
of work, It Is the largest allotment
received for road building by any
of the national forests In Oregon or
Wsshlngton. If the fund allotments
are Increased In future years, con
struction can be accelerated.
It Is not expected that the new
roads will be ready for use this year.
Although new routes will oe followed
In the main, parts of the old roads
will be utilized. The new roads will
unite with county roads.
For years there has been consider
able agitation on the part of the
public In the Rogue river valley and
Klamath Palls for Improved roads to
Lake of the Woods Leader In the
agitation has been the Lake of the
Woods Summer Home association.
The present roads are narrow,
crooked, rough, dusty and generally
In bad condition.

Ronald Bond, charged with .reckless
driving was continued yesterday un
til October 4, upon stipulation of
the district attorney and counsel rep
resenting Bond. A damage action
has been filed against Bond by Dean
Terrlll for 95,000 a sthe result of an
auto accident July 4. The postpone
ment was made to permit hearing of
this suit before the reckless driving
complaint.
The accident Involved, occurred on
the Crater Lake highway on the af
ternoon of July 4 five miles from this
tety. The cars driven by Bond and
Terrlll collided at the brow of tjmall
Knoll. Terrlll, his wife and two
children assertedly sustained Injur
